⫸ Promoting the practice of traditional Chito-Ryu Karate in Toronto since 1962
⫸ Classes for Children (4+) and Adults
⫸ Supervised by Sensei Shane Higashi (Hanshi 10th dan, Saiko Shihan)

At the end of class this week, Higashi Sensei reminded us of the importance of maintaining the integrity of the Dojo by leading through respect - not only for our shared training space, but for one another.

He reminded the younger karateka to always show respect to their seniors, and the senior karateka to never misuse their role as guides and mentors. He emphasized that mutual respect is a fundamental part of our training and something we should carry with us wherever we go, ensuring that the Dojo is represented with honour, both inside and outside its walls.

You may be a beginner or a seasoned Karateka;
and if you understand the journey of a martial artist, then you know that growth takes time, discipline, and constant effort.

And to maintain that growth,
One must put in the daily work.

"One does not stop the training when one gets old, but one gets old when one stops the training".

"In Chito-Ryu Karate-Do, the philosophical and behavioral foundation is outlined in the Chito-Dun (the Five Precepts), established by the founder, Dr. Tsuyoshi Chitose. These maxims are traditionally recited by practitioners to guide their attitude and character both inside and outside the dojo."

The five precepts of Chito-Ryu Karate:

*Firstly: Respect is foremost in our minds.
*Secondly: Always seek the correct attitude.
*Thirdly: Speak little, listen more.
*Fourthly: Strive for a vigorous spirit.
*Fifthly: A clean body is essential.

The amazing team from our Higashi School of Karate Club posing together after a successful tournament. Congratulations to all our talented young karatekas!

This past Sunday (April 26), the Chito-Ryu Association of Ontario hosted its annual Spring Tournament at the Higashi Honbu Dojo. It was a great event that highlighted the skills and dedication of our talented young karateka from Burlington, Richmond Hill, New Hamburg, and Toronto.

We’re very grateful to all the parents who took time out of their busy schedules to support their children and bring them to compete. Your continued support helps us keep improving and creating even better tournaments in the future.

A big thank you as well to all the yudansha who helped organize the event, volunteered as referees, and kept everything running smoothly throughout the day.

Stay tuned for more highlights from this amazing tournament!
