Muskies Canada is an angling club whose interests extend beyond the mere catching of fish. We also share an interest in the preservation of our target species, Muskellunge, and we hope to enhance this fishery by our direct involvement in the management of the species. The projects and programs we are managing have all been designed to raise the public's awareness of the muskellunge fishery as well as to protect it

Thank you to all members and guests who joined us this past weekend at the annual "Toronto Blowout" at Catalina Bay Resort in the beautiful Kawartha Lakes region.

🏆John Cowan was lucky enough to win the Swan Moving Trophy as well as the Kelly-Boxall Award with a beautifully released 45" musky!

We would like to thank everyone involved including the staff at Catalina Bay Resort and all of our sponsors and those who generously donated to our fantastic prize table.

The release tools all musky fisherman should use!

Even more important than large thick messed musky nets, heavy rods, durable reels, heavy lines, leaders, protective gloves and lures is proper release tools.

No musky fisherman should be on the water without them.

They include Long Nose Pliers, Heavy Duty Jaw Spreaders and Knipex Mini Bolt Cutters. There is also optional tools like a "Grab it" style tool for deeply hooked fish. They allow you to easily grab the hook itself while keeping your hands away from sharp teeth. Adding a safety laynard or floating device to them
and having an extra set of tools in the boat is always a good idea as well.

Minimize the time out of the water with the musky, support the fish horizontally and securely with both hands. Do not hold the musky vertically.

If you want to learn more about proper release tools and techniques feel free to come to one of our monthly meetings held from Sept to June. Monthly meetings are posted on Facebook on a regular basis.

Good luck on the water!
