Finally figured out the easiest and most effective way to turn a track sled around on the spot if it gets stuck.
Right hand on the front corner, pulling it around, and left hand on the throttle to control the movement. The unit basically turns itself.

Last week, I put the Long model to the test with two sleds attached, carrying a combined load of about 550 lbs (250 kg). I took it out for roughly 5 km across a mix of conditions—very wet snow, deep drifts, frozen grassy ground, and even over ponds.
As expected, the longer wheelbase improved traction. Large-radius turns felt great, though tighter turns took a bit more effort and leaning to maneuver.
Overall, I’m very happy with the performance. With its light weight (around 160 lbs) and low center of gravity, it handled everything quite well.
Next up, I’ll continue testing in the spring and early fall on grass for hunting and trapping purposes.

SledDog Buddy Update – Introducing the LONG Version!
It’s hard to believe it’s been 4 years since we launched the original SledDog Buddy! From the start, our goal has been to find the perfect balance of size, weight, portability, and price—a machine with enough power to tow 1–2 people and their gear on two sleds, yet compact enough to fit inside a mid-size SUV.
After years of testing and feedback, we believe we hit that sweet spot. The SledDog Buddy has proven itself as a reliable, go-anywhere workhorse.
But... some of you asked for more—more power, more towing capacity, and better performance in tougher conditions.
So here it is: SledDog Buddy Long
Built for grooming trails, hauling heavy loads, and tackling rougher terrain—all while staying 90% compatible with the original model to keep parts affordable and available in North America.
Key Upgrades:
• Longer frame: 52" vs 44"
• Longer track: 104" vs 86"
• Extra suspension shaft with 2 bogie wheels to support the extended track.
💰 Pricing: Still TBD but won’t be much higher than the original Buddy (which remains at $2,800 CAD). Staying true to our motto:
Simple = Reliable.
We’ve built one prototype and will be testing it in various conditions over the next few months. Target production: Winter 2025–2026 with at least 10 units planned.

Fuel Economy Test: SledDog Buddy in Action!
Last weekend, we took the SledDog Buddy out for a long ride to test its fuel efficiency in different snow conditions. One of the most common questions we get is: How far can it go on a full tank? So, we decided to find out!
The Route & Conditions:
-Started on well-packed snow at Prudence Creek, cruising at full speed.
-Hit Lake Winnipeg, where deep snow drifts made for a bumpy ride with lots of acceleration/deceleration.
-Spent an hour unsuccessfully fishing (the fish won this round).
-My kid took the puppy for a spin while I tried to catch something.
-Explored deep powder snow along small side creeks before heading to Parisian Lake for a scenic ride and island walk.
-Finally, ran out of gas just 300 meters from the car—pretty good timing!
⛽ Fuel Economy Stats:
🔹 Crew: 1 adult + 1 teenager (~350 lbs total), 2 sleds
🔹 Gear: Tent, heater, rods (~100 lbs) for half the trip
🔹 Gas used: 1 full tank (3.6L / 0.95 gal)
🔹 Distance covered: 30.3 km (18.8 mi)
🔹 Fuel efficiency: 8.4 km/L (19.8 mpg)
💡 Takeaway: If you're planning a trip, keep these numbers in mind and always follow the boatman’s rule:
🔸 1/3 for the way there
🔸 1/3 for the way back
🔸 1/3 as a spare
Better safe than stranded! ❄️

Modifications and improvements.
Three years ago, we introduced SledDog Buddy with goals in mind: to create a Machine that’s Truly portable, affordable, practical and offers the best value—both in price and functionality. From a soft seat to a tow bar, engine cover, and a sled in the base model, we've continuously worked to make it better.
After testing the unit ourselves, we realized many of our customers—especially ice fishermen—already use their own toboggans for hauling gear. So, we added a tow bar and mounting bracket on the back of toboggan to tow second sled to the base model. ✅
We're constantly testing new ideas on our display unit. Some make the cut, some don’t—but that’s all part of the process! Right now, we're experimenting with internal wire and throttle cable routing inside the handle for better protection and a cleaner look. What do you think? 🤔
💡 Small but Mighty Upgrade
We’ve also added a rubber roll on the back of the trunk—because let’s be honest, powder-coated aluminum can be slippery!
We know every rider has unique needs and setups, and SledDog Buddy is built for customization. Add studs, lights, batteries, holders, tool kits, transport devices—whatever makes your ride better!

We’d love to see how you've customized your SledDog Buddy! Drop a pic in the comments and share your ideas. Let’s keep improving—together!
When making modifications, use common sense—stay clear of moving parts, ensure any welding seams not affected, and avoid modifying existing components. This helps maintain both safety and warranty coverage.
