Ella Fitzgerald
The name “Ella’s Fellas” is inspired by Ella Fitzgerald’s iconic 1960 performance of “Mack the Knife” in Berlin. Taking on a song often associated with male performers, Ella delivered a groundbreaking rendition, saying, “We haven’t heard a girl sing it.” During the performance, she forgot the lyrics but improvised with brilliant spontaneity, singing the line “Ella and her fellas.” This moment symbolized breaking free from male-dominated norms and celebrated creativity, freedom, and the joy of embracing the unexpected.
We do have a full page dedicated to her on our webpage. You can find it on Ellasfellas.ch > Ella Fitzgerald.
We also suggest following , as they share valuable information and content about Ella Fitzgerald.
Join Luciano for some Tap :) Every Thursday 20:30–21:40. It’s best if you bring some Tap or Solo Jazz experience, or simply the motivation to challenge yourself with something new. Registration is open online at ellasfellas.ch → classes.

Part 1: Where the Groove Lies
This part of the workshop invites you to experience groove as something you live within rather than just something you dance to. We will focus on how rhythm is held, expressed, and sustained through the body, enhancing your sense of pulse, flow, and musical presence. Through exploration, you will develop a more grounded, adaptable connection to rhythm, allowing the groove to naturally influence both your solo movement and your partner dancing. This session aims to lay the foundation for greater clarity, ease, and expressiveness in your dancing.
Part 2: Hear It, Feel It, then Move It
Building on the foundation of groove, this class places music at the centre of your movement choices. Instead of shaping the dance first with sequences and patterns, we explore how rhythm, phrasing, and dynamics naturally guide the body’s movement. With a focus on openness, curiosity, and embodied listening, you will aim to develop a more intuitive relationship with the music. This encourages greater musicality, responsiveness, and freedom of expression, enabling you to move with intention and authenticity.
