Egypt has launched an ambitious new conservation programme to help safeguard its world-famous Red Sea coral reefs.

The Egyptian Red Sea Initiative brings together the Egyptian government, the United Nations Development Programme and the Global Fund for Coral Reefs to create long-term funding for reef conservation, sustainable tourism and local communities.

For divers, it is an encouraging step towards protecting one of the world's most spectacular underwater environments for generations to come.
