We bow out of the Scottish Cup after a poor defeat. Playing into a strong wind we started well enough but then handed the momentum to EK by giving away needless fouls around our box . Brayden saved well from one free kick but EK took the lead when we failed to stop and clear a cross which was played back into the box and their striker finished from close range. For 20 mins after the goal we were all over the place , failing to get our press right and EK had a lot of the ball without creating any real chances. As the half progressed we played our way into the game but failed to take any of the half chances presented and at HT we had failed to trouble their stand in keeper.
2nd half with the wind was a different game as we dominated the ball and created chance after chance. As has been the case all too often this season we failed to hit the target although we did rattle the woodwork 4 times and had one disallowed for offside.
Brayden made a great save from a break away to keep us in the game but as the clock ticked down we couldn’t find the goal to force penalties.
It’s a sore defeat as we exit the Scottish Cup in the very early rounds for the 1st time ever but if you lose cheap goal & don’t put the ball in the net, we won’t win many games.
It’s back to training next week, dust ourselves down & look to work on the areas we need to be better at & hopefully come back stronger.
Congratulations to EK who had a game plan & carried it out very well on the night, all the best in the next round.
MOTM , a match where few hit the levels we know they are capable of.
Brayden takes the award , did everything asked of him in goals with one great double save in the 2nd half.
