The end of summer ladder league last night was celebrated in the usual style with pizzas and prizegiving. Well done to the winners and big thanks from all 51 of us that entered to Chris for organising ably assisted by John and Nimish.

The good weather held out for the Ashford TTC bbq this weekend with a good crowd attending, accompanied by clubmate Martin on the accordion and music later by The Stone Age

Update on Oscar Nikolli’s progress at the European Youth Championships - the team events have now finished and Oscar contributed well, especially in the doubles matches to close the team in 9th place out of 16.

They have now moved to the individual events, and Oscar’s off to a flying start winning all his group matches 3-0. He’s in action today in the knockout stages and you can follow his progress at

The European Youth Championships started yesterday in Portugal with Oscar Nikolli playing for England in the cadets. Results will be updated daily at https://www.tabletennisengland.co.uk/news/2026/european-youth-championships-team-events/ So far Oscar has played in he doubles vs France with a straight sets win, and vs Romania losing in the 5th.

Seventy six players braved the heat on Saturday to play in the Cadet and Junior 2* competition at Ashford, competing in U13, U15, U17 and U19 categories. Despite a warm hall and a long day, players managed to stay hydrated and keep going, aided by copious towel and water breaks during the games. The U13’s saw Ashford’s Ethan King win the main knockout in four sets against Kent’s Oliver Willis, with Middlesex’s Elias Emin defeating Ashford’s Ameerah Ballad in the consolation final. In the U15’s final, Thomas Otterbu (SUR) overcame Ashford’s Jonathan Hartig in four sets, while Josh Herring (SUR), having narrowly defeated his brother Toby in the semis, went on to win the consolation final beating Samuel Morgan of Essex.

The closest contest was in the U17’s where Kai Lun Chow (Cam) defeated Zihan Lin, also of Cambridgeshire in five sets, finally winning out 6,-7,4,-8,10. Five set matches seemed a particular feature across the board, with a significant number of matches through the day going the full distance. In the U19’s Olivier Chu was a clear winner in three, against U17 champion Kai Lun Chow, while in the consolation event, Anhadvir Singh of Ashford was victorious. This was the first two-star cadet and junior event run at Ashford, following on from two successful one-star tournaments hosted in late 2025 and early 2026. Tournament organiser was Simon Grant, with Ken Phillips from Cippenham refereeing, and Simon Grant and Bjoern Hartig as the official umpires. Nimish Agarwal ran the desk, aided by Gary Stevenson. Future events are likely to include a U11/U12/U13 one-star and a Cadet/Junior banded 2* in the new season.

Congratulations to club mates Sarah Horsnell and Diccon Gray who have just competed in the ITTF World Masters Championships in Gangneung, South Korea.

Diccon, partnered with Birgit Matthies from Germany got through to the semi finals of the Mixed Doubles O60s, and in the Mens O65 doubles into the quarter finals with German partner Wolfgang Brennenstuhl. He also did just as well on his own reaching the quarter finals of the men’s O65 singles.

Sarah and her partner Andrea Harrison went into the consolation event of the O45 ladies doubles where they fought through to the final losing to a Korean & Estonian pair.

Well done Christopher! At 8 years old this weekend he came 2nd in the Band 4 under 11 boys at Graham Spicer tournament. Ameerah came 4th in the band 1 under 11, an open event.
