Not content with just a 10k, 10 mile or even a half marathon on a Saturday two brave Striders decided they would take part in a four hour relay event laid on by the Endure company. Adrian Green and Jason Caldwell took part in Endure London in Finsbury Park. The aim was to complete as many of the 2.5km laps as they could in the 4 hours. They managed to complete 11 laps each covering 55km or 34.2 miles in 4:06:44! An achievement in itself but that also bagged them 51st place out of a field of 98 teams in a very fast and competitive race - take a bow lads!
Onto Sunday and there were plenty of Striders out there racing, proudly showing off their Striders shirts!
First up Cardiff Half Marathon - this fast, flat course passes all of the city’s most breathtaking scenery and iconic landmarks including Cardiff Castle! Someone who probably didn’t see the sights, because he was speeding round the city, was Scott Hawkins who smashed his PB by at least 8 minutes in 1:48:46! Next up was Hazel Wi******er who stormed round in 2:16:55. Hot on Hazel’s heels and a favourite of Cardiff Half Marathon was Rachel Tomsett in 2:44:43. Well done you three what a beautiful day to run through such an iconic city.
Next up was Jemma Holloway who decided she was going to do her bit for charity and take part in the Butterfly 10k run for Cure EB (Epidermolysis Bullosa). Jemma made her way up to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to take part in the chip-timed 10k and managed to float like a butterfly round the course in a superb time of 1:01:58! Well done Jemma on not only a great run but raising awareness for charity, double credits for you.
Also in the mood for a quick 10k was Lee Standen who decided to head off to Southend for his race! Lee absolutely smashed it with a fantastic time of 58:11 - well done Lee. You’re putting in the time and seeing the benefits!
Sittingbourne was the setting for the Sittingbourne Striders 10k and 10 mile race and our very own Linda-Jean Delport decided she would put Ashford Striders on the leaderboard by not only smashing the 10 mile race but crossing the line as 2nd lady in a fabulous time of 1:19:45!! Well done Linda-Jean.
Finally a little note about vitality 10k which took place last week. Ray Adams found a friend on route, got chatting and realised that this new friend was heading for the time that Ray had not only set his heart on but that would earn him a PB. Ray and his new friends managed just that - scoring Ray a lovely shiny new 10k PB of an amazing 49:58! Well done Ray - hard work certainly pays off.
Well done Ashford Striders you once again amaze me! I think I need a lay down and I haven’t even raced this weekend!!
Remember if you would like a mention in the run report you must submit your times - please let us celebrate you all! If there is anyone or anything missing please shout!
Thanks all, happy running ❤️
