Match report.
The 16s travelled to Lurgan on Saturday to play a combined Portadown/Lurgan team hoping to follow up on a win against the same opposition in a friendly last month. Unfortunately we were only able to field 14 players putting us at a numerical disadvantage from the outset. This may have affected the team which started poorly and were 14 points down after ten minutes. Bangor were second best in most contact situations and appeared likely to be physically overwhelmed by their opponents who were showing greater commitment and robustness particularly at the break down. Thankfully however the boys rallied and tries from Oli Rice (enjoying the freedom of his new role in the centre) and Ethan Blayney brought the scoreboard level by half time. Bangor at this stage were unrecognisable from the side that had started the game so passively. The momentum however stalled with the loss of Matthew Acheson reducing the team to 13 players and whilst the boys continued to battle bravely the numerical difference began to tell and two scores were conceded late on to give Portadown/Lurgan victory by 26 to 14 which probably flattered the home side on the balance of play. There was plenty however to encourage the travelling supporters from the Bangor performance. The continuity of play was impressive coordinated by Ethan Blayney and Henry Trimble. Oli Rice and Jack Wiles both ran strongly and were dangerous whenever they had the ball. Thomas Gilmore’s work at the breakdown was immense securing at least 4 turnovers. Special mention must also go to Charlie Hopps who was courageous in his tackling against a full back who looked big enough (and old enough) to be his father! Congratulations also to Jack Mc Gowan who had an impressive debut and showed great promise for the season ahead.

U14 match report:

What a match.. to go out with 12 players against 15 takes courage and team spirit. Portadown started strong taking 3 try quickly but before half time we came back with a good run from Isaac to quick throw the Captain Spencer who got it over the line! Going into the second half we started strong with a try from Mason and then again with Ethan. Portadown took a few more trys from us but Spencer got another to bring the final score to 42-26.. the boys even finished the last 5 minutes with only 11 men!! And a bonus point !!

Post - training! Well done to Jack W for being the last man standing after a tense stand off with Ethan B...
The lads continued their team time back at the club for pizza and enjoying the Club Day at the refurbished club house supporting the Senior teams in the first home matches of the season.

While the seniors got their season underway with a local derby, all of our youth section teams travelled to Portadown for pre-season friendlies.

We had a great turn out- lots of encouragements for the season ahead!

Hopefully everyone has dried out from the persistent rain 🌧️
