Hey Gang,
Time for our September "Meet the Member"
Tracy might have only joined us 3 months ago but already part of the family. Here is her story.
Hi, I’m Tracy, and I joined Boot Camp for the first time in June this year. I’d been looking for a fitness class for a while — something team orientated that would help strengthen my knees and ankles after various injuries. I’ve always found working in a group so much easier than trying to motivate myself alone, and since joining, I’ve genuinely felt myself going from strength to strength.
I love the general banter at Tadley Boot Camp, the way Nick mixes things up every week, and the fact that so many people have been part of the group for years and treat it like a second family. There’s a real sense of teamwork and encouragement, and it makes such a difference.
I live in Silchester with my husband, Jon, and usually our two children — although we’re now at that stage where they’re beginning to step into adulthood and head out into the world. Becky, our eldest at 22, has just moved back home after graduating and is figuring out her next steps. Oli, who’s 18, has just started his travels around Indonesia; we’re planning to meet him in Singapore in December before spending a month together in Australia. After that, he’ll be heading to Canada to train as a ski instructor.
We’ve lived in Silchester for almost 19 years, ever since moving in just before Oli was born. Over that time, we’ve supported the village in lots of ways, and I now manage and organise the committee that hosts the annual Run Silchester event. Since taking it on, we’ve grown the event from around 150 runners to about 500. So if anyone at Boot Camp ever fancies volunteering — big or small — or joining the committee, just give me a shout.
We’re very much an outdoorsy family. Most of our holidays have been spent climbing Wainwrights in the Lake District or surfing and coastal walking in Cornwall. We’re also huge music lovers and make sure we go to at least one festival together every year. This year it was End of the Road in Dorset; last year it was Truck in Oxfordshire. My music taste ranges from drum and bass to dance and trance to classical, and our favourite gig this year was definitely Prodigy.
Anyway, I’ve talked enough — thank you for being so welcoming. I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone over time.
