I'm fortunate that I get to 'work' ar something I enjoy doing.

But then there are some day when I remember that I LOVE my job.

Today is one od those days.

Little things that make a BIG impact

A massive thank you to all those who donated to the Olympic Legacy Fund.

And to Nicky and the whole team at .ie who supplied the equipment.

Our Belfast training centre is now a fully equipped centre to continue to provide a pathway to elite level swimming.

A team with all the talent in the world. Fast swimmers. Great facilities. Parents who write checks.

And yet… something is off.

Kids quit by 15. The vibe on deck is tense. Swimmers compete against each other instead of with each other.

Then there's the other team.

Less individual talent. Fewer sectional cuts. But somehow, that team keeps everyone. Swimmers show up early. They cheer for each other. They push through hard sets together.

That's not luck. That's culture.

Culture is NOT:
❌ A poster on the wall that says "TEAMWORK"
❌ A speech at the beginning of the season
❌ Yelling "positive energy!" and hoping it happens

Culture IS:
✅ The sum of what you tolerate, what you celebrate, and what you correct

Today is Day 4 of my Resilience Series on Patreon.

In the free public post, I break down:

🏊 The three pillars of a resilient team culture:

Shared Identity (We Belong)

Shared Struggle (We Work Together)

Shared Accountability (We Hold Each Other Up)

🛠️ The framework: See It. Name It. Model It.

📋 Five concrete culture-building practices you can implement this week:

The "Finish Together" Rule

The "Three Cheers" Protocol

Captain Training (not just selection)

The "Culture Check" Meeting

The Post-Set Shout-Out

Patreon members get three ready-to-use resources:

📝 Team Values Workshop Plan – A 30-minute team meeting to co-create team values and norms (includes full script and prompts)

👑 Captain/Leader Training Guide – A 45-minute training session for team leaders (agenda, role-plays, discussion guides, and a leader contract)

📊 Culture Audit Worksheet – A self-assessment tool for coaches to evaluate their team's current culture across the three pillars

Culture doesn't happen by accident. It's built—on purpose, every single day.

Coaches: This one's for you.

Feeling like the “lazy coach” today? 😩
Western culture calls it laziness. Japan calls it a system problem. I call it Tuesday.

I turned 7 Japanese methods (Kaizen, Ikigai, Wabi‑Sabi, etc.) into a stupid‑simple playbook for swim coaches who are tired, stuck, or just over it.

👉 The full Lazy Coach Quip Sheet – one page that fits inside your clipboard – is now on my Patreon.

Now get back on deck. Grumpy is fine. Quit isn’t. 🏊‍♂️💥

Let’s be real: some seasons are grinds. The wins feel small, the alarm comes early, and you wonder why you do this.

But what if your “laziness” wasn’t a character flaw – just a broken system?

Inspired by Japanese methods like Kaizen, Ikigai, and Kintsugi, I wrote a post for swim coaches who need a reset. No toxic positivity. Just 7 practical moves to get your drive back.
