Another productive Saturday morning at The Juke Yard 🌿

There was plenty to keep our volunteer Juke Yarders busy today with a good tidy-up around the space, adding some more structure with these gorgeous knotted ivy posts, working out the installation of our new pergola canopy and creating new wall features.

One of the best parts of the morning, was spotting the bees returning in the cooler weather and making the most of everything that's now growing. 🐝

Every session brings us another step closer to creating a welcoming community garden where people can connect with nature, each other, and enjoy spending time outdoors.

When we needed a sound check for next weekend’s sold out Fleadh Cheoil – Hidden Dance Halls: A Belfast Speakeasy Session, Dapper D didn’t need asked twice… 😄

Most people know him for his dancing, impeccable style and musicality… but today he was putting the equipment through its paces.

Don’t worry Lee Hedley Blues Band are still taking care of the music next weekend! Dapper D was just making sure everything was sounding as it should.

Wow, what a day!

We always imagined 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝘂𝗸𝗲 𝗬𝗮𝗿𝗱 having a nod towards Juke Joints of old - places where culture is celebrated and social connection is made. After day one of our mural project, we're already well on the way. What an incredible start!

A huge thank you to the amazing group of talented participants from Refuge Language, who brought so much energy, fun and creativity to the project under the superb guidance of street artist Carla Hodgson Art.

We're also incredibly grateful to EastSide Arts for making this possible through their 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘇 programme, funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.

We can't wait to see it all come together! 🎨🌿💙

Looking back over eight years of Our Social Space, we’re proud to share 𝑻𝙝𝒆 𝑹𝙝𝒚𝙩𝒉𝙢 𝙒𝒆 𝑭𝙤𝒖𝙣𝒅…our contribution to the NI Digital Archives through the NI Now Project.

Produced earlier this year, this short film captures some of the people, places and moments that have shaped our history (so far), celebrating the power of social dance to bring people together and build community.

We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it. 💙

We’re taking a short summer break.

We’ll be back from Sunday 19 July, starting with Sunday Blues, followed by our full programme of Swing, Jazz and Blues classes.

What a day at The Juke Yard! 🌿

Three new benches built, a raised pond installed, the oil tank prepped for a special feature, and the first sweet peas filling the air with their scent.

It’s amazing how many little pieces come together to slowly transform a space. We can’t wait to share more as The Juke Yard continues to take shape. 💙

🌱 Back at 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝘂𝗸𝗲 𝗬𝗮𝗿𝗱 today after a week's break for a maintenance morning.

The biggest excitement was seeing how much everything has grown in just one week! 🍅🍎🫛🥒

Our volunteers were delighted to spot the first tomatoes, apples, peas and courgettes developing, alongside plenty of other signs that all the hard work is paying off.

It's lovely to see the space coming to life, one week at a time. 💚

We're excited to launch our new community cinema season, Stories Rooted in Rhythm...eleven films exploring music, identity, culture and community.

Our opening screening is the wonderful 𝗕𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗮 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 (𝟭𝟵𝟵𝟵), a joyful celebration of the legendary Cuban musicians whose music captured hearts around the world.
