Mini series episode 3
Today we're comparing the time we spend moving our horses. No prizes for guessing we spend MUCH less time moving our track horses.
But how much time do you think we spend turning out and bringing in our Traditional Livery horses?

Track Life, It's already super enriching for our horses, they live comfortably within their herd, playing, eating, sleeping and mutual grooming.
There was a lot of thought put into designing our tracks to offer a variety of areas and surfaces for them to spend time, there is always hay dotted around for them to find and feast on, we have logs for them to chew, step over, scratch on etc. They have sheltered spots and more open spots and both of the tracks overlook our traditional summer turnout fields, so they also get a daily show of turning out and bringing to watch! 😂

We like to go a step further though when timing and herd dynamics allow. With things like:
Water buffet
Salt lick
Mineral lick
Fodder blocks
Our puzzle pit
Any foraged goodies, such as willow, nettles, thistles, rosehips etc we've collected.
Not to mention the vegetable kebabs provided at Christmas (or whenever Nat feels like whittling through a swede or 6!)

We've even been working on a scent area idea where we can introduce essential oils for the horses to smell and benefit from.

We're always happy to hear what you guys do too, no secret guarding here, just all in this together to make ours horses as happy as we can!

So it's not just humans that make bad choices, wild life does too sometimes.
It's lovely to see bt sometimes wild life needs to be a little more wild.

Episode 2 of our mini series, comparing track and traditional livery for amount of work and man hours involved.

This week we're looking at nets, the number of nets we fill and how long it takes... Well how long it takes Nat!! 💪🏼

We put out 3 higher value nets in the evening to encourage more movement as this is when it's cooler and the horses are not disturbed. We don't use the ring feeder if there are less than 5 horses as we find they don't go through the hay quickly enough and it goes to waste. The more horses we have on the track the more extra nets we put out on an evening. Don't worry there is always hay left in the black nets for picking at during the day unless the hay feeder is getting nearly empty and harder to eat out of. On which case the horses make more effort with the nets.

Does the difference in amount and time surprise you?

Myself and Bertie had a great time at the British Riding Clubs Championships at Aston le Walls We did the Combined Training at Novice and 80 level. We have had 2 quiet months for various reasons so we went in very under prepared. We did a nice dressage test bt sadly had 2 poles down jumping. Bt we had a great time and that is the important bit. It's great being part of a team and going to a final and supporting each other and just remembering that the win is getting to the final and just enjoying it.
Thanks to my staff who keep the place running without me and white rose riding club. .
