Off Szn 🏋️

May has been a month of doing things that felt good for soul.

A combination of shifting weights, fitness and of course some mandatory T-shirt fillers.

After a long block of running, it’s nice to train simply just for fun.

All fuelled by 🤝🏻

After 15 years coaching, I’ve learned one thing…the common definition of “success” often misses the point. It’s not always about chasing bigger numbers or pushing harder every single session. Frankly, that mindset isn’t sustainable for any kind of athlete.

Real progress for the everyday athlete looks different. It’s the quiet wins.

The confidence you build navigating the free weight area, the resilience to get a workout done after a rough day, or the intelligence to prioritise recovery over constantly being ‘locked it’.

It’s about making the most of the time you have and building habits that genuinely improve your life.

Your journey is unique. Every consistent effort, every small step forward, every adaptation you make within your own context….these are wins.

They deserve to be recognised and celebrated, not dismissed because they don’t fit someone else’s highlight reel.

Bad day to be PB. Even worse day to be a Guinness.

Righted some wrongs, after some grim long runs recently where I wasn’t coming out on the right side of things.

An increase in cadence. A increase calories (fuming 🙄) and a better nutrition strategy, thanks to . What a difference a week makes!

5 weeks to go. Thank to you everyone who has donated so far 🙏🏻

One of the first conversations I have with a member isn’t about exercises. It’s about understanding their specific context and needs.

What are we training for?
What does your running week actually look like?
What’s your injury history?
How strong are you already?
And what does the race really demand from you?

Because strength training for runners and hybrid athletes isn’t just about adding gym sessions.

It’s about building something that supports performance.

Some athletes need more force production.
Some need more durability.
Some just need structure that fits around their mileage, without adding unnecessary fatigue.

That’s why no two programmes look the same.

My role isn’t to make you tired in the gym. It’s to help them become stronger, more resilient, and better prepared for the demands of endeavour.

If you’re thinking about integrating strength work into your training, save this for later.

And if you want help building a structured approach around your running, send me a message or comment RUNNER — happy to help.

Just trying to cling on to being an Athlete for as possible 🏃🏻🏋🏻‍♀️

If you’re adding strength training to prep for your next race, it needs a purpose.

Not random gym sessions or workouts.

Here’s why each of these exercises earns its place:

• Power cleans

Train rapid force production and coordination. Running may be “aerobic”, but we also requires efficient force application — especially as fatigue builds.

• Weighted rebound box jumps

Develop elastic strength and tendon stiffness. This improves how efficiently you recycle energy with each ground contact, helping maintain running economy over long distances.

• Single-leg plyometrics

Running is unilateral in nature, so single leg plyometrics can be a game changer. These build the ability to absorb and re-produce force while maintaining pelvic and knee control — key for durability and injury resilience.

• 30s Bike Erg efforts (90s rest)

Target lactate threshold and fatigue resistance without additional impact. A smart way to support hard run sessions while managing overall training load.

Your Strength training doesn’t need to be excessive. Focus on being intentional, complimenting your running volume and bullet proofing the body for race day.

If I were thinking about my first HYROX in 2026, this is what I’d focus on.

I’d build real strength so the work feels efficient under fatigue. 💪🏻

I’d improve my running enough that it supports the race instead of limiting it.🏃🏻

I’d follow a structured hybrid plan that progresses over time, not random sessions.🧠

I’d train around people who push standards and make the process enjoyable.🙌🏻

And I’d fuel and recover properly so training quality stays high week to week.🍎

HYROX isn’t about doing everything at once — it’s about doing the right things, in the right order, for long enough.

If 2026 feels like the year you want a new challenge, save this post and come back to it.
And if you want help putting these pieces together, drop me a DM.
