On Sunday 28th June the Clark cup team travelled to Chester le Street GC for the Round of 16 fixture.

Wins from Jamie Birkbeck 2&1, a superb win from Finley hall 2&1 after being 2 down thru 13, and a fighting 1 up win from Kevin Hamilton on the last hole give us a 3-2 win!

Superb golf from the lads. 👏🏼

I’d like to thank Chester le street GC for their hospitality and wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season.

The Quarter finals come next where we visit Tyneside GC

On Sunday 14th June the gents team visited Seaham GC to continue their quest to reach the finals of the Academia Matchplay in Spain.

Each of our five players were giving shots to their opponents, so it was going to prove a tough ask.

Out first for BAGC was Chris Thompson, who found himself 3 down with 3 to play but staged a fightback to take his match the distance. His opponent managed a half on the 18th meaning he won 1 up.

Adam Peart was at number two and had to give his opponent 8 shots. The Seaham member played solid golf and managed to edge out Adam late on.

At three was David Elliott, who had a very tight match, where there was never more than one hole in it – sadly, David lost 1 down.

Richard Reed played really well and triumphed 3&2, despite conceding 6 shots to his opponent.

Our rear gunner on the day was ex-Seaham member, Paul King. Paul was involved in another close game and shook hands with his opponent on the 18th tee for a friendly half, when the news filtered through that we could no longer win the tie.

The final score of 3.5 – 1.5 to Seaham GC means that the dream of Spain is over for this year.

Joint team manager, Mark Walker, commented ‘a strong performance from our guys and with a little more luck, we could have won but credit to the guys from Seaham GC. Thanks to the captain, manager and players from Seaham who looked after us well on the day and played in a great spirit – good luck to them for the rest of their campaign. Finally, thanks to the players, caddies and supporters from BAGC – we’ll be back in 2027!’

On Wednesday 3rd June the Men’s TSU team faced Teeside on what was our 5th game of the campaign and 4th home game in a row.

It was looking extremely positive at the half way stage as a lot of the team were up. But Teeside showed there fighting spirit and made a great come back.

In the Scratch Section we started off with wins from Finley Hall 5&4, Wayne Hewitt 4&3, and Ben Mawson 1up giving this section 6 points.

In the Handicap Section we had a thrilling half from Craig Wren after being Dormie 3 down. Fantastic fight back! 👏🏼
This followed with wins from Steve Jackson 6&4, Chris Thompson 5&3 and Davey Elliot 3&2 giving this section 7 points.

Final result :-
Bishop Auckland 13
Teeside 11

Another win at home as we prepare for what could be our hardest game of the season away to an inform Eaglescliffe side next Wednesday!

As always plenty of support is welcome!
