Another one came in that had been left out all winter. Fortunately, it had been left under a canopy so did have some protection... All 4 cables replaced, chain cleaned and lubed and it was all running smoothly again. The only thing I couldn't really clean up were the forks.... I've cleaned some up but the problem is that rust is just going to keep coming back since it got through the thin chrome coating 😭
Also, while setting up the front brake, I found that the back plate that can adjust the pad spacing had seized up. Steel and aluminium parts that need to twist added with water don't go together very well without something like a grease or light oil in-between them Fortunately I was able to find a spare part and fix it. Cheers Simon 😊

So, I am back. Have just been doing a few minor jobs while my eyes settle down.
1st one came in with just a puncture but then I found the brakes had oil on them.. new pads and dousing the rotors in brake cleaner... Still not happy with them... Then once the puncture was sorted, I test rode it and realised the chain was completely worn out which usually means the cassette is gone too 😩. Just currently waiting on the parts and then I can get the gears all happy and smooth again before I go over the brakes again....

Eyes done. Now the recovery time...

Two serviced bikes ready to return to their owners. The pink bike just needed some basic tlc. Tyres pumped up, gears and chain cleaned, brakes and gears adjusted.
The Specialized needed a bit more love. One of the rear brake arms was missing the pin to create the tension on the arms.
The rear mech was missing it's back plate and jockey wheels and the cassette was an 8 speed whereas the shifter was 9 speed. A 2nd hand mech was sourced, New parts ordered, new parts fitted. Gears dialed in and brakes adjusted.
All ready to return back home 😎

Just a reminder, I will be closing from the 25th May and won't be taking on any bike repairs until the 4th June

2 bike returned today... They've had quite a bit of work. Especially the boardman.
The specialized had new brake pads, chain and cassette and some tuning of the gears. Easy
The Boardman had a new bottom bracket (the old one wasn't the right one for the SRAM cranks) and new brakes as the rear brake lever seals had failed. The brakes were quite old and getting spares was going to be tricky.
The forks and shock cleaned and pumped up and the frame, gears and chain cleaned up
Last of all, the front wheel dishing was way off. It was closer to one side of the fork rather than centered as it should be. The wheel and fork are a bolt thru design so it's not like the wheel was fitted incorrectly.
The bike now all works as it should. Brakes and moving parts.
There is some other remedial work that needs doing but i will leave that in the customers hand. The rear shock felt really sluggish so needs servicing and ideally, the brake hoses need trimming down as they're a little long. Better than too short like they were when the bike came to me

Always keep an eye on your brake... If you feel something isn't right, get it checked as soon as possible. I caught these just before they went through the metal backing plate. Then it would have been a case of new brakes altogether 😩

Well, I've decided, I need a break. Things have been hectic at home and at my main job and I'm feeling quite run down. I will not be taking any bikes in after next Wednesday for at least a week.
Also, at the end of May, I will be taking a week off for recovery from a small operation so no bikes from the 25th until the 5th of June.
Thank you
Mike
