@ LPR we use a different kind of AI - ๐ผ๐ฉ๐๐ก๐๐ฉ๐ ๐๐ฃ๐จ๐๐๐๐ฉ to gain feedback & understand what our runners like & how we can improve things. Here's a selection of reviews from London Calling in April, which is our ๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ต ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ฅ๐ฐ๐ฏ ๐๐ข๐ณ๐ข๐ต๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ฏ event & falls on TCS London Marathon day again in 2027. It's๐
, so here's a sneak peek @ the gong available for runners @ Wight Lines at Milford-On-Sea, Hampshire in October. It's an Isle of Wight / Wu-Tang Clan mash-up, obvs, in keeping with the Hip-hop theme of the event. Appropriately, it's ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ต๐ข๐ญ AND a ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ ๐ธ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ณ - proper old-school bling. Cooler than a cucumber in a bowler hat๐ฅ

It's our second edition of Wight Lines, so here's a few details:
โฑ๏ธ7-hour timed, lapped event: pick your own distance, 5K-Ultra marathon
Coastal promenade course (mainly tarmac, some hardstanding, VERY short gravel section)
Stunning views of the Isle of Wight, the Needles & Sturt nature reserve en route

Introducing this week's runner profile - Fiona Pawsey. We were lucky enough to meet Fiona recently @ London Calling, where she spent the day with her running buddies from JH Running Club, who came as a group & encouraged their runners across a variety of distances. On the day she ran an excellent half marathon: kudos, Fiona.๐
Fiona's been running for 8 years, enjoys running anywhere, swears by a good pair of running shoes & has a very valid motivation for doing so - avoiding tech for a while! You're not alone, Fiona: what could be better than getting away form the white noise, setting a goal & achieving it on a sunny day on a beautiful trail with your supportive running pals? Answer on the back of a postage stamp, please :-) ๐๏ธ
If you're part of a running group/club & fancy an away day on the trails, check out upcoming events - HOT-TO-GO & Something To Talk About are perfect candidates to set up as a group, make a day of it & switch off for for a while. You can make use of our multi-buy discounts (which are apparent when you sign up), or get in touch for larger group discounts.

Today is ๐ช๐ผ๐ฟ๐น๐ฑ ๐๐ป๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ป๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐๐ฎ๐, so a few notes on what we're trying to do in this area. A big part of our ethos is to host great events but try, as much as possible, to It's not possible to achieve a zero carbon footprint with a mass participant event BUT what we can do is strive to reduce it as much as possible. A few ways that we're trying to do so:
๐ข๐ป ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐
๐ฅคAll events are cupless. We want to minimise plastic use. Refreshments are available @ the Run DMC (aid) station & participants are asked to bring their own cup/bottle
We do not use bottled water. Part of our site planning is to source facilities with mains taps, or we'll bring it all from home
Waste. All participants are encouraged to take any waste home & recycle. Failing that, we supply & label recycling & waste bins. After each event we then process waste off-site & re-use & recycle
Race bibs. So far we've eschewed plasti-paper race bibs in favour of 'mark on yourself' numbers. We're working on recycle-able fabric bibs for our next event - watch this space
๐On conclusion of each event we re-check the route just in case of inadvertent littering. Across 10 events we've found ๐ผ๐ป๐ฒ gel packet. Well done, runners! ๐
๐ฝOur LPR 'house' T '๐๐ฆ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ ๐ฎ๐ช๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ง๐ณ๐ฐ๐ญ๐ช๐ค๐ด' is 100% recycled; each T contains 9 recycled plastic bottles https://www.longplayerrunning.co.uk/products/never-mind-the-frolics-technical-t-3357
๐Event-specific Ts: We've chosen a good, fit-for-purpose product that lasts. We've identified it as it's a product that is transitioning to 100% recycled polyester, which is positive.
We strive to choose event sites with decent public transport links. It's not always possible with trails, but we signpost travel options anyway. We also strongly encourage groups to car share. We're also aware that not everyone has a car & we will be utilising the community page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/2573042769733582) to signpost spare seats & anyone requiring transport to stick up a hand for help ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ
Our event entry system allows us to log distances participants travel to each event (this doesn't include car shares). ATM we average around an estimated 0.37 tonnes of CO2/event for travel. The lowest being around 0.27. Benchmarking will allow us to track any changes in trends & correct wherever possible. We'll also be working on refining this data.
On most trail events we're currently working with (FE) & donate 20% of all income to help their work maintaining & restoring UK trails. Part of the process is liaising with FE rangers to identify routes which minimise impacts. Getting people out on the trail also reinforces their importance, helps re-connect people with nature & realise the mental health benefits.
If you have any further environmental/sustainability ideas or suggestions, let us know. We're keen to listen & implement any changes at speed
See you on the (clean) trails!

Meet Robin Mulford, this week's runner profile. Proof again that running comes to the fore at different stages of life: he's now finding more time to run now that his boys are a that bit older. Those boys are no running slouches, either! He's also proof that it's not always plain sailing - forgetting you running shoes for a weekend running event is a very good story! We've all forgotten some vital piece of kit at some point though, right?
Robin joined us in January at @ Starburster for a twilight run through Hurn forest, which was our first 'day turns to night' event that turned out to be a roaring success. We're putting it on again next January to get everyone through those darker, colder evenings as a bridge to spring events.
Great advice, too - tie those laces, put one foot in front of the other, don't fret, get out in the wilds & feel the buzz. Spot on, Robin.
See you on the trails!
