It's Mental Health Awareness week!
This week we will be warming up our bodies ready for our runs, whilst also warming up our minds. We will be asking our members what running means to them and how it supports their mental health. We hope this gives everyone the space and confidence to carry on &
If you can't attend the session, let us know in the comments what your thoughts are on how running supports your mental health.
And don't forget; if any of you are ever struggling, please don't do so in silence. There are nearly 200 of us here ready to keep you company on a run, go for a beer or a coffee, join you on a walk or whatever else you might enjoy.
We also have our lovely Welfare Officer who can offer support.

MEDAL MONDAY π
WHAT A WEEKEND FOR EGRC!
We have a lot to catch up on from the weekend (and before) but we will start with the race in our home City hosted by
Sunday saw a whole host of our members taking to the streets of Bristol to run either the 10K or Half Marathon. It was great to see so many green tshirts out there. Here are a selection of photos but there were more members running than shown (nothing against 'em, just don't have their photos π€£)
Some brilliant performances out there, a collection of PB's, returns from injury and general fun. The crowds were great and there were plenty of sweets & fun signs to brighten our days.
A thank you to who once again stepped into a volunteer role and acted as a pacer for the HM.

π§π»π©π©π»βπ¦° Women's Wednesday - Topic 1: Safety π±πΏββοΈπ©π½βπ¦±π§βπ¦³
We were joined this week by Avon and Somerset Police and South Gloucestershire Council to talk about women's safety.
We had a really interesting evening listening to one another's experiences of occasions where we felt unsafe. Unfortunately, far too many of us have been harassed when running, even in the slightest of ways.
We also discussed different ways each of us keep ourselves safe and how men often think it's neurotic, but in reality it's simply a sign of the lengths women have to go to to protect themselves. Fortunately for men, these just aren't considerations they necessarily even think about because they dont have to.
We were given some great information and learnt about different initiatives involving CCTV - the project to put cameras along certain sections of the cycle track and the use of cameras at metrobus bus-stops (did you know there is an emergency button at the pay station, which a control room can then immediately monitor the bus stop CCTV and contact the police if required? - next time you go past a bus stop, have a look!) We came away with plenty of other information and resources, including equipment, apps, how to report incidents and how to report unsafe locations/conditions e.g. overgrown bushes along footpaths.
Take a look at our slides to read some of the things that the women at our club have experienced whilst running, how they keep themselves safe, and how men can support when in making them feel safe.
We'd be interested to know your thoughts on any of the topics in the slides or mentioned here.
Special note: We collectively agreed on the night that we hadn't experienced this from men at our club and didn't feel unsafe with our male club members ππ€

πββοΈπΆββοΈββ‘οΈ In commemoration of Jeff Galloway πΆββοΈββ‘οΈπββοΈββ‘οΈ
Today we hear of the sad news of the passing of the pioneer of the run/walk method, also known as 'jeffing'.
Jeff was a lifetime runner who qualified for the US 10,000m at the 1972 Olympic Games. Galloway founded running clubs, shops, camps and travel but was most notable for his method of teaching that not only helped people get in to running in the first place, but also gave countless benefits to even the most seasoned of runners.
Those benefits include, but are not limited to:
* Reduced risk of injury
* Faster recovery
* Increased speed and endurance
* Improved enjoyment
* Better mental and physical control
Here are a selection of photos from our wonderful run/walk group on a few of their adventures both on and off road. Thank you Mr Jeff Galloway π
