8 years of padel… what a journey! 🎾

Eight years ago, growing padel in the UK meant WhatsApping local people trying to find two more players just to make up a four!

Fast-forward to today and padel has now surpassed 1 million players in the UK, while our own journey from that first club in Maldon has grown into PDL Padel United UK — 16 venues and 50+ courts, with plenty more to come.

It’s been great looking back at where it all started, the people who believed in it early on, and some of the other pioneers who were building the sport alongside us.

A special mention to Michael Gradon & Game4Padel and Javier Fernandez Aguirre & Stratford Padel Club — guys I remember well from those early days when the UK padel community was a very different place!

From WhatsApping around trying to make up a four to over a million UK players… not bad in eight years! 🙌

And it still feels like we’re only getting started.

Game on! 🎾

Padel in Britain has just crossed a line that would have sounded impossible a few years ago. One million people were playing by May this year, The Guardian reports, up from 860,000 at the end of 2025. That is not a nudge. That is a sport arriving in the mainstream.

About 129,000 people played in 2023. By the end of 2024 it was 400,000. Then 860,000. Now a million... Game on! Affordable padel.

Three new Padel United venues. Three new communities getting on court.

Over the past two months, we’ve continued to grow our network across London and Essex.

Willesden opened in July with our London pop-up, which will remain in place while we work towards delivering permanent courts at the site. Saffron Walden and Great Dunmow followed in August, each marking another important step in Padel United’s growth.

Saffron Walden brought padel to the town for the first time, while Great Dunmow became our first school-based venue, helping introduce the sport to the next generation while remaining accessible to the wider community.

The strong start across all three venues is another positive sign of both Padel United’s growth and the wider momentum behind padel in the UK.

As padel continues to grow across the UK, so do we. With more venues already announced, including Redbridge and Brackley, and more still to come, the next few months are shaping up to be another big period for Padel United.

Stay tuned for the official opening date and more updates very soon.
