Today is Earth Overshoot Day. The date when humanity has consumed nature's entire annual budget. From now until December 31st, we're operating on deficit.

If everyone on Earth lived like an average UK citizen, we'd need 2.6 Planet Earths. USA? 5.1. Qatar? 9. We have one.

This isn't inevitable. Businesses can reduce their ecological footprint by the same principles they'd apply to cash flow. Renewable energy instead of fossil fuels. Energy efficiency. Circular economies that keep precious metals in the loop. Waste reduction — 1.3 billion tonnes of food wasted annually. Biodiversity net gain by restoring or rewilding land.

Some of these are already legal requirements. Most are just good business applied to nature.

Calculate your own ecological footprint. Map your organisation's consumption and biocapacity. Then do what any business would do: close the gap.

🚨 The Home Office is now funding trauma tracking for police — and the model behind it matters for every high-exposure sector.

964,000 people reported work-related stress, depression or anxiety in 2024/25 (a record high, 22.1 million working days lost). Ambulance, fire, social work and emergency call centre staff face a similar exposure profile.

In December 2025, HSE served the University of Birmingham a Notice of Contravention for breaching stress regulations — despite having a stress policy in place. The problem: it was too generic, and didn't identify which roles carried higher risk.

The new standard: identify high-exposure roles, define traumatic exposure, track it cumulatively, set trigger thresholds, and review at organisational level. Not mental health surveillance — just recording what the job exposed people to.

Today is World Youth Skills Day, and we couldn't think of a better way to mark it than by celebrating one of our own. Five years ago, Cole took a daring leap — stepping into a professional workplace and starting a degree at the same time. Today, he graduates from the University of South Wales with a First Class Honours degree in Marketing Management. 🎓
