🔴⚫️Full Time Result🔴⚫️

Chard United 1st 2-2 South Petherton 1st

Before the game started a minute silence was held in memory of Martin Allen who sadly passed away recently. Martin would always attend games at Jocelyn supporting both teams which we are grateful for! Our thoughts go out to all of his family and friends at this very difficult time.

1st half started with Chard looking to get the ball on the ground and play some football. With Chard and South Petherton both creating some half chances it was the big aerial threat from a Pethy corner being difficult to defend against which broke the deadlock to send us 1 nil down. With the lads looking to bounce back and changing to look to get the ball in behind rather than playing their way through a resiliant Petherton side Chard began looking more of a threat. A well timed ball from Brad Davies found Owen Ford in space and with the defence well beaten Owen managed to take the ball into the box and finish with a well placed composed finish into the bottom corner to make it 1 all. The half continued with chances from both sides with Pethy coming closest hitting the bar but the half finished 1 all.

2nd half began and with Chard heading down the slope and the lads looked to pin pethy back. With multiple chances being created it looked inevitable Chard were going to score. But again the aerial threat from Pethy became clear and with a long throw towards the back post and Chards defence well beaten the ball was headed into the back of the net to send Chard 1 goal behind again. The lads were not going down without a fight. Multiple chances from Chard continued to be missed including Owen coming closest hitting the bar and Brad coming very close with the follow up, not to mention the Pethy keeper putting in an exceptional performance it looked destined to be another loss. But this fortunately wasn't the case! Leaving it late super sub James Salter managed to assist Luis Nightingill to make it 2 all! With 4 minutes left to play Chard looked to push for a winner but had to settle for 1 point on the day as the game ended a draw. Credit to Pethy on the day they played to their strengths, worked hard and a great performance from their keeper kept them in it! Good to see them back looking stronger this season.

Manager Pink had this to say-"A much better performance than last week it has to be said which is good to see! Frustrating on the day to not come away with the 3 points especially with the number of chances we had. But with that being said credit to the lads for putting the effort in and even with the situation of going 1 goal behind twice in the game and missing a bunch of chances to keep mind strong and not give up and come back the seal a draw in the dying minutes is the correct mentality to have. Special mention to keeper Squid with a solid performance in the sticks. Also great to see Fordy get a well deserved man of the match performance after recent struggles with an injury. All the lads put in a much improved performance which is now something to build upon and i back them everytime to go and do that, i know a winning run isn't far away."

The lads look forward to welcoming Merriott Moretti to Jocelyn Park this week where after a difficult start to the league campaign they will be looking to get nothing less than 3 points!

🔴⚫️ Chard United 1-4 Thorncombe 🔴⚫️

A tough afternoon for the boys as we fell to a 4-1 defeat against Thorncombe.

The game started fairly slowly, with Chard struggling to get a foothold in the match. This eventually led to Thorncombe taking the lead. However, conceding gave Chard the boost they needed, and we began to control the rest of the half, creating chances and getting ourselves back into the game with an equaliser heading into the break.

The second half started in much the same way, with Chard looking to take the lead and build on the momentum from the first half.

However, midway through the second half, Chard received a sin bin which completely turned the game on its head. Thorncombe took advantage, grabbing a goal to make it 2-1.

Chard tried to push forward and get ourselves back into the game, but in the end, our attacking efforts left us exposed, and Thorncombe added to their lead.

A frustrating result for the boys, and in the end, Thorncombe deservedly took all three points.

We dust ourselves down, learn from it and go again next week. Plenty to work on, but we stick together.

🔴⚫️Full Time Result🔴⚫️

Chard United 1sts 1-3 Crewkerne Rangers 1sts

After recent success the first league game arrived on Saturday with Chard looking to build on their cup win but ended up falling very short and experiencing a dismal first 45 minutes.

First half began with Chard trying to play the ball about but with poor touches and passing not on point plus with the added pressure from Crewkerne the lads found it really difficult to settle and grab any sort of foothold in the game. Chard were not without their chances but it was Crewkerne who struck 1st to make it 1 nil. With Chard seemingly unable to react it wasn't long before Crewkerne made it 2 nil. Poor defending gifted the Striker space and time to hit a long range shot to the top corner which left to keeper no chance, 2 nil! Immediate reaction was required from Chard but the pressure and occasion seemed to get the better of them. With Crewkerne 2 nil up a mistake was the last thing Chard needed but unfortunately a penalty was conceded by the Chard defence and the opposition calmy placed it into the bottom corner to make it 3 nil at half time.

After some stern words at half time the lads knew they had to put in a better performance in the 2nd half. The half began with Chard looking better than the previous 45. With more control from Chard and still unable to convert any chances in the first 15-20 minutes it seemed like they were never going to score. That was until Cruz Baker managed to pull one back to make it 3-1 with roughly 25 minutes to go! The hope was to try and push on and salvage something from the game but unfortunately it wasn't Chard's day and Crewkerne stood firm to see the game end 3-1 to the visitors!

The managerial team had this to say "After recent success we were hopeful of sealing all 3 points today, but that wasn't the case! Granted we had 5 players missing but regardless of that we still had a very good and capable squad of 16 but it just wasn't our day. With nobody anywhere near their best we still had chances but just could not seem to find the back of the net. Regardless of the reasons for today maybe this is exactly what we as a team needed after recent success, to be brought back down to earth, to learn a lesson and to know that in the future no matter who we are up against, we have to be on our A game every time! Credit to Crewkerne who turned up today after making the step up to the Prem, took their chances and took all 3 points home with them. Focus for us now turns to the next match! We know we have to be better, the lads know it too and we have every faith and confidence in them that we can as a team bounce back from this and have a successful season ahead!"

Dowlish & Donyatt 1st 3-1 Chard United Res

The reserves had a tough opening game of the season but put on a good show despite the result.

Chard started the game well looking to get on the front foot early and looking solid defensively going into the water break. Chard didn’t get going following the break, a Dowlish corner wasn’t dealt with properly and after several deflections saw the ball go through the legs of the Chard keeper.

It wasn’t long before Dowlish got their second again from a corner which saw the Chard keeper punch the ball into the back of his own defender and into the net for an own goal.

Going 2-0 down saw Chard start to get back on a front foot and after some good positive play Connor Hunt pulled one back with a composed finish in the bottom corner following some great battling from Ashley Lillington to create the chance to make it 2-1 going in at half time.

It was a close affair throughout the second half with chances being created at both ends. Chard were awarded a penalty early in the second half, Captain Dan Scriven saw his shocking effort saved by the keeper to keep the score at 2-1. Moments later Brad Davies burst through from the midfield to go one on one with a keeper to only see his effort go just wide of the post.

Dowlish then saw the game out after the Chard keeper fumbled a tame effort into his own net to make it 3-1.

On another day it could easily have been 3-1 to Chard but our own mistakes cost us the game. Despite the result lots of positives to take and we go again next week against away at Thorncombe.

🔴⚫️Fundraising Update🔴⚫️

🎯🎯Pairs Darts Competition🎯🎯

Over the bank holiday weekend a year on we hosted our 2nd August round robin pairs darts competition. Another succesful day was had and we managed to raise a total of £350! With some brilliant darts throughout the day there of course could only be 1 winner in the end. Winners on the day were Alex Anning & Mason Doble overcoming last years winners Leighton Cox and Kieran Spurdle in a 5-0 hammering in the final with some sensational darts on show!

Big thanks firstly to all of the players who entered! Second thanks goes to The Happy Return for again letting us run the competition within their pub and keeping everyone watered throughout the day🍻, also to Streetwraps for supplying the food for the bbq🍔 and last but not least to our board sponsors! Without the effort and generosity we would not be able to run competitions like this, it is certainly much appreciated!

🔴⚫️Chard Hospital Cup Final🔴⚫️

🔴⚫️Chard United 6-1 Merriott Moretti🔴⚫️

The boys rolled out an emphatic win in the Chard Hospital cup final on Thursday night on a fine night at Zembard Lane!🏆

First half started with both teams seeing plenty of the ball, but it didn't take long for Chard to settle and begin playing some lovely football and moving the ball around really well which made it difficult for Merriott. The first Chard goal came from Merriott conceding a penalty after Jake Davey was brought down after a bursting run. In form Olly Chubb stepped up and fired it into the back of the net. Chard looked to build on this and shortly after Olly Chubb pounced on a mistake, took the ball past the defence and calmly slotted it into the bottom corner to make it 2 nil! With Chard in complete control going up the hill after imcredibly hard work from the lads the half ended 2 nil.

The 2nd half began after a well needed break. The hunger and desire was still clear to see with plenty of the same control from Chard. Next up on the scoresheet was Brad Davies with a fine left footed strike from the edge of the box assisted by Luis Nightingill to make it 3 nil. Chard looked to continue building on this but Merriott had other ideas and managed to get a goal back to make it 3-1. With spirits within the Merriott side rising and in their mind a potential comeback on the cards Chard not long after dampened spirits once again after a ball played from Olly Chubb followed by a bursting run from Jake Davey beating players into the box and ending with a cool finish to make it 4-1! With plenty of brilliant football on display and a solid performance from the entire Chard side this was fully deserved and it was not over yet! Chard were awarded a free kick which Jamie Brown perfectly looped into the box where Luis Nightingill awaited to see the ball into the back of the net to make it 5-1. The 2nd half saw plenty of substitutions and plenty of quality coming on and off the bench. After a well earned break it was time for Owen Ford and Olly Chubb to come back on for the final 10 minutes. Not long after they both linked up together with some fine football and a perfectly timed ball from Owen into Olly for him to then find the back of the net to get his hattrick and make the game finish 6-1.

Managerial team had this to say "What a night! The lads put in an unbelievable performance, listened well and stuck to the gameplan throughout the 90 minutes to make sure we got that all important win. With the new management team and new players coming in it's all new and to have a start like this we could not ask for anymore! For this team to be where they are now after a turbulent couple of seasons is incredible, and credit to the players for that. On the night outstanding performance from the whole team from the starting 11 to the players who came on from the bench they all played their part and the work that was put in was phenominal. Special mention to Olly Chubb for the hattrick! The midfield trio of Ben, Gav and Brad were incredible. But most of all just the team as a whole was a credit to us, themselves and a big big credit to this club!"

With expactations high it was a slightly dissapointing pre season for the first team with injuries and unavailability. The newly appointed management of Isaacs, Every and Pink had a turbulent ride playing some tough teams without the squads they'd hoped for but none the less made the best of it against tough opposition.

Chard Hospital Cup-quarter final!

Combe Res 0-0 Chard United
5-6 Penalties

Chard looking to bounce back turned up to Combe against a strong Combe side! With still a few missing it was set to be a hard task and that it was! New players stepping in and stepping up! A hard slog and a lot of effort put in between the 2 sides but at full time neither team had found the back of the net! The game ended at penalties where Chard became victourious after scoring all 6 penalties and the 5th Combe penalty being saved by the Chard keeper.

Semi final!
Chard United 4-2 Halstock

With full managment back and the squad coming together as one, a few niggling injuries as always, Chard set to make a statement in the semi final. A cagey 10 minutes soon fell into a happy trail of Chard attacks which led to Chard being 3-1 up at half time via Owen Ford and Olly Chubb. Changes were made at halftime. Shortly after Jake Davey was brought on, he scored an absolute thriller which set the theatre of dreams alight. 4-1! The game was far from over, Halstock offered plenty of long ball and pressure that unfortunately led to the Chard defence conceding a definite penalty to which they scored to make it 4-2. But with all of this it wasn't enough, the Chard defence stood strong and again hard work and desire from everybody made sure we got to the final! On the whole a very impressive performance from the lads on the night that can now be taken forward and built on into the final!

Chard now look forward to the Hospital Cup Final where they look to continue their cup run and go all the way with another solid performance to bring the cup home for one another. It would be great to see as many of you down there to support the lads as possible!
