Aurora Field Archery Club We also hold monthly club days in which we shoot our novel "scene shoot" format. In the meantime, we will be seeing you in a wood somewhere very soon!

Aurora Field Archery Club is registered with the National Field Archery Society (NFAS) and we hold regular field archery competitions in our 60 acres of woodland near Chelmsford Essex. What a totally awesome day at Whitefriars for their open shoot today 😏🙌👍

Excellent course with a perfect mix of distances and targets utilising the terrain to great effect - top marks and thanks to the course setters and all of the home team involved in making it happen 🙏🙌

A good few Auroreans made the trip to deepest darkest Suffolk and did not disappoint, ruthlessly plundering the medal store securing a grand haul of bling🥇🥈🥉😆

We even got a couple of interlopers desperate to join the gang for the obligatory group photo 🤣🤣 Isn’t that right Sorin Adrian Dediu and Garry Fisk 🤣🤣

A cracking day at Pines Park today, and well worth the 3-hour drive each way (thanks Ken!)🚗🏹

It was an unexpectedly chilly start 🥶, but by mid-morning we had perfect archery conditions. The course was beautifully laid offering a great test, with a good mix of distances and plenty of terrain and woodland trickery to keep everyone thinking 🤔

A big thank you to everyone at Pines Park for hosting such a well-run event: the course setters, catering team, marshals and admin crew. Brilliant from start to finish. 🙌🙏

It was especially good to shoot with Ian.. well… us fellow Geordies have to stick together! 😄

Three Auroreans made the trip and came home with a couple of gold medals 🙌🥇🥇

A brilliant day at HNA today - classic HNA at its best! A fantastic mix of short and long shots, with plenty of trees, branches, humps and hollows thrown in to perplex and confound in equal measure. Exactly how field archery should be! 🌳🏹

Huge thanks to everyone on the home team for putting on another superb event: the course setters, catering crew, marshals — and, of course, admin. Top-notch from start to finish. 🙌🙏

It was great to see such a strong turnout from Team Aurora at our nearest neighbours, and between us we brought home a very healthy haul of medals too! 🥇🥈🥉

Well done to everyone who shot, helped out and supported the day. Another cracking event — already looking forward to the next one!

Today we hosted our 2026 Club Championships, using the same course laid by Kieran for our September shoot last weekend. It was great to see so many members take advantage of shooting a full course in our own woods for a change.

The rain clouds loomed overhead, but luckily held off. This did, however, coat our woods with a dull, flat lighting all day, which seemed to almost make some of the targets disappear into the shadows.

Using a handicap system, we "equalised" the scores across all the bow styles to find this year's club champion. Big congratulations to Martin for claiming this year's trophy, and to Kieran and David for taking 2nd and 3rd place. Thank you to all members who attended, took part, and helped clear the course.

Finally, a huge thank you to our honourable guests who attended, all of whom provided great company, laughs, and support in striking down the course

Morning all, to those of you who joined us at the weekend, I will keep the scorecards for a couple of weeks before binning them, so if you want yours kept and signed for future Champs purposes, please do let me know asap and I'll do that👍

AURORA OPEN SHOOT 6th SEPTEMBER 2026

Another Aurora shoot in the bag and what a fantastic day it has been with just over 70 archers joining us on a beautiful sunny day as we remembered John Smith, one of the Aurora faithful who sadly passed away recently.

We were delighted to be joined by John’s family who kindly presented the medals to the successful archers – thank you so much for joining us on this special day.

Huge thank you to all of the archery family for supporting us – we never take it for granted, to all Aurora members for making it happen, especially our very own “Swiss family Grundon” for creating such a fabulous course – well done one and all.

Thank you as ever to Radical Bikes for letting us to use your ground and Lord Petre for his fabulous woodland.

Today was a standard big game round of 2 x 21 targets but with the added Brucie Bonus of 28s being scored for a pro-kill on the first arrow (as well as the usual 24) with each 28 counting 2 spots making the maximum possible score of 1176 with 84 spots. Huge shout out to Iain Cope shooting Compound Unlimited who scored 1102 with 62 spots… monster score - respect due!!

Here are the full results, many congratulations to all of our medal winners.

AND FINALLY...

Next Sunday 13th September we will be holding our Aurora club champs on the same course as used today so if you were unable to attend or want to pit yourself against the course setters again, you are more than welcome to come along to shoot alongside.

10am walkout and there won’t be any medals but there will be the usual tea coffee, cakes etc.

Payment on the day for shoot fees and refreshments will be entirely voluntary at your discretion.

We’d love to see you, so if you want to join us then please email us on [email protected] to secure your place (NFAS members only).

Afternoon all,

John Smith

We heard this afternoon the very sad news that one of the past Aurora faithful, John Smith has passed away peacefully in his sleep following a short illness.

John hadn’t shot for a while but once an Aurorean, always an Aurorean and he will be greatly missed.

Our heartfelt thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family and friends on behalf of all his archery companions. He will be greatly missed.
