“I’ve been teaching one swimmer for a number of terms, and when he first started, he was incredibly nervous. Seeing how far he has come has been amazing. This term, he has been swimming without armbands, enjoying time under the water, jumping in and genuinely loving being in the pool. Watching that confidence and ability grow has definitely been my favourite moment.”

Heading to the beach this summer? Please remember to check the beach flags before going into the sea. They are there to help you understand where and when it is safe to swim. Taking a moment to look could make all the difference.

“Like Kate, it was hard to choose just one moment — but my favourite was during Drowning Prevention Week. Seeing swimmers who once felt unsure about putting their faces in the water with goggles go on to fully submerge without goggles was such a rewarding moment. I was incredibly proud of them. A huge well done from me — I hope you’re proud of yourselves too!”

If you’re buying new swimwear for holidays or days by the water this summer, colour is worth thinking about. Bright, high-visibility colours can make a big difference when spotting swimmers in the water. It’s a simple choice that can help keep children easier to see.

Kate’s favourite moment this term: “There have been so many highlights this term — from the fun of whirlpools during Drowning Prevention Week to seeing our swimmers grow in confidence. My absolute favourite moment was watching one of our young SEND swimmers move through the water without any physical support for the first time. It was a huge achievement for both the swimmer and me, and a moment I’ll remember for a long time.”

That’s a wrap for our summer term! It has been a pleasure watching our swimmers grow in confidence and ability over the last few months. We hope you all have a wonderful summer break and remember your water safety messages whenever you are in, on or around water.

Stop and Think: Always swim somewhere safe.

Stay Together: Always stay close to others in the water.

Call 999 in an emergency: Throw a flotation device if one is available and use clear verbal or hand signals to encourage someone back to safety. Never enter the water to help.

Float: If you fall in, float, breathe and relax.

Have a brilliant summer — we look forward to seeing you again in September!

As most of you are probably aware, I do love a bit of open-water swimming! 🏊‍♀️💙

So, when I saw an opportunity to take on a 10,000m swim challenge this August, I thought… why not?!

But what really clinched it for me was the fact that this challenge is raising money for childhood cancer — a cause that means more to me than many of you may realise.

Something most of you probably don’t know is that one of our former swimmers, who swam with us before going on to have a very successful competitive swimming journey with a swimming club, was sadly diagnosed with cancer. Knowing this made the decision to take on this challenge even more meaningful.

I plan to grab this opportunity with both hands and give it everything I’ve got. Even better, the swimmer in question will be joining me to complete the final leg of this 10,000m challenge at the end of August — something that will make the finish incredibly special and emotional. 💙

So please, please, please — if you can help us support children affected by cancer by donating anything at all, no matter how big or small, it would mean the absolute world to us.

Thank you so, so much for your support. 🏊‍♀️💙🎗️

It’s Play Week! After all their hard work this term, our swimmers get to enjoy a well-earned play swim this week. We can’t wait to see everyone having fun, building confidence and finishing the term with lots of smiles.
