Today I passed my 5th Dan kickboxing black belt assessment. Teaching and training at the HQ with Sifu Frank, Mark, Lee & Emma.

It was an absolutely pleasure to help push the pace of the STMA club through their own grading, train myself, teach my style of kickboxing and add it some self defence.

I started kickboxing in 2004. It was something I wanted to do for many years before, but martial arts wasn’t in every town like it is today. I moved to a new town and a leaflet came through my door. I went to the gym, signed up without even trialing a class first.

I’m a fiercely loyal person, so when there’s something I enjoy, I dedicate so much time in my life to get good at it.
Twenty two years later I have my own club as well as
My first student joined my club at 4 years old and this year he will be 19. I’ve graded 13 people to black belt over the years, 8 still train with me and 3 are now 2nd Dan’s.

Building my club from the foundations is something I’m immensely proud of. Every black belt was also a white belt at my club. I haven’t bought and paid for coaches to come in from outside, we are home grown, organic and a family that has grown together.

Everyone puts in the hard work to help build from the ground up, for each student who comes through the door and trusts us to help them achieve their goals.
Gemma and June have both branched out teaching their own classes and their students come back to grade with us at Kinetic.
We have a strong team of coaches and junior coaches who love being able to give back.

Today was incredible and I’m truly grateful to be awarded my 5th Dan. The aim is always to inspire my students and keep having fun on the journey.

Brilliant afternoon at inter club.
Eight students, 4 who have never competed before got in the ring and showed an excellent display of kickboxing.

Thanks to Keiron for inviting us. It’s great to have so many clubs linking together and giving the students an opportunity to experience fighting in a full size ring with other respectful fighters.

Getting to know the Kinetic coaches

Hi, my name is June and i currently train and help out on Saturday and Tuesday at Kinetic. I started kickboxing over 14 years ago and began my kickboxing journey in Colchester, moving to Witham then Chelmsford. I am currently a Black Belt 2nd Dan and love spending my time coaching others and watching them progress.
I currently work in a primary school which, although rewarding, can also be quite stressful so i use kickboxing, and my other passion, boxing to unwind.
Any spare time I have is used to study for my sports degree as well as spending time with my grandaughters.
I am always seeking to challenge myself both mentally and physically taking part in bike, walking or climbing ultra challenges which i enjoy doing with my daughters.

Meet Evelyn, one of our fantastic junior coaches! Starting her kickboxing journey at just 4 years old, she has worked her way up to a brown belt with double black stripes and is eagerly awaiting her black belt assessment. Every Saturday morning, Evelyn supports and encourages our younger members before stepping into her own class, something she truly loves doing.

Through kickboxing, Evelyn has grown in confidence, discipline, and resilience—skills that help her both in training and everyday life. She’s also built some amazing friendships along the way that mean the world to her.

Outside the club, Evelyn is in Year 8 at school and enjoys attending drama classes. She’s a creative soul who loves making things, especially crocheting, and she absolutely adores her two dogs, Cora and Koda—who adore her right back!

We’re so proud of the positive role model Evelyn is becoming, both on and off the mats.

Getting to know the Kinetic coaches

Hi, my name is Gemma. I have been kickboxing for the last 14 years. Martial arts has always been around me. My Dad is a 9th Dan black belt in traditional Jujitsu.
I started off really nervous and kickboxing has really helped with my confidence.
I was initially training, then started helping out on Saturdays and then started my own class on Tuesday.
About 3 years ago I started my own 2 classes at the school I work at and have around 10 children that have graded.
Outside of kickboxing I love doing things with Olivia and Darcey, going out for days, or being at home with matching pyjamas and a movie.
Also take my dog Manny out for walks over at Hylands Park where he can run around and enjoy himself.
I love visiting my family and seeing my friends.
