Teeing off at 11.30am and with the weather looking wet this afternoon Cheshire Golfer and leader - Richard Baird has it all to play for.

The Championship has been dominated recently by Welsh international senior golfer Neil Roderick, who successfully defended the title in 2025 and entered 2026 as one of the players to watch.

It's going to be a fascinating day at Aberdovey!

A splendid day at Eaglescliffe today where Cheshire Women drew their match and came second in the final standings. Well done all!

It all came down to the very last match and the very last hole. Cheshire managed a 2.5–2.5 draw against Lancashire.

Yorkshire won 5–0 against Cumbria, which means they take first place, and Cheshire finish second - just ahead of Lancashire.

The great news is that the North has two qualifying spots this year, so Cheshire are through to the finals in July!

A fantastic effort from everyone involved. All absolutely chuffed with that result!

County Match Week is effectively the highest level of amateur county team golf for women in England, below only the national championships and elite England squads.

For Cheshire, it is one of the most important team events of the year.

In the North Region, six counties compete:

• Cheshire
• Cumbria
• Durham
• Lancashire
• Northumberland
• Yorkshire

The event is played over three days and rotates around the counties.

Eaglescliffe Golf Club, host venue for the 2026 Women's North Region County Match Week, is a classic James Braid design dating from 1928, later enhanced by Henry Cotton with the addition of four holes in 1968.

An interesting historical fact: Eaglescliffe hosted an exhibition match in 1933 between Walter Hagen and Percy Alliss, with Hagen shooting 74 to Alliss's 78.

Cheshire ladies hold the narrowest of leads going into the final day of County Match Week today at

Let's hope for a return to something like summer weather after yesterday's hail storm.

Good luck to the team who are teeing it up against Lancashire at 08.15!

A super day at Wallasey for the U14's and a hole in one!

Fine weather, superb hospitality, a hole-in-one, a junior giving 33 shots and winning. Overall, the teams were tied 5-5.

A BIG thank-you to Ben (Keegan) Wallasey's junior organiser & to the club, we were regally entertained.

The highlight of the day goes to James (Harrison) with his first ever hole-in-one. I'm sure it's also the first one we've had in the many years of running the U14s. Ryan (Young) had a mountain to climb today, giving away 33 shots. He won 5/4, well done Ryan. Overall, we gave 121 shots, receiving none. The day was a great experience for both teams with the overall score a very acceptable draw, 5-5.

Team L/R back
Alfie Dunbar/Heswall, Harvey Eastwood/Caldy, Charlie Thompson/Styal, Cruz Norton/Northenden, James Prest/Stockport

L/R Front
Luke Doran/Sandiway, Jeremy Ju/Hazel Grove, Ryan Young/Styal, Stewart Neil/Deputy President/Cheshire Golf, James Harrison/Astbury, Henry Quinn/Disley

Many thanks to you parents for supporting the team today. As always, my thanks to my colleagues Mike (Jones) & Jim (McBride) & we were delighted that our deputy president, Stewart (Neil) came along to support the team throughout the day. Our president, Marjorie (Griffiths) was also in attendance, however, she was there to support the County ladies playing against a Liverpool University team.

To host both matches today at Wallasey speaks volumes for the support the club gives so generously to Cheshire.

Thank-You Wallasey golf club for fabulous day of golf.

Cheshire Golf is sorry to learn of the death of Jean Payne.

Jean was involved with Cheshire Ladies Association for many years including Representative for the Northern Counties from 2017 to 2024 when she took up the role of Cheshire Captain. Jean was the last Cheshire Captain of the Cheshire Association.

An advocate for women’s and girls’ golf, Jean was always available to support our County. Once we unified, Jean held the role of Clubs Director, until recently.
Jean was admired and respected. As well as her work with Cheshire Golf, she was involved with the Territorial Army and served on the front line in the War Zone in Bosnia. Jean enjoyed orienteering and was captain of Upton by Chester Golf Club in 2003.

Jean gave so much of her life to Cheshire Golf. A very kind person and who will be missed by so many.

Jean's funeral will be at Chester Crematorium, Blacon, on Friday 26th June at 2.40pm and afterwards at Upton-by-Chester GC.
