Staniford Cup 2026 🏆

This year’s Staniford Cup was held on Saturday, 18th July at Eaton Golf Club. Once again, the event attracted a very strong field, with teams from Delamere Forest Golf Club, Sandiway Golf Club Chester Golf Club, Prenton Golf Club, Vicars Cross Golf Club, and two teams each from Eaton and Vale Royal Abbey all competing to lift the prestigious trophy.

Conditions were ideal and with the course presented in excellent condition, I expected to see some exceptionally low scores. However, as is so often the case, the challenge of the Eaton course and particularly its superb greens proved to be a stern test, taking its toll on many of the players!

The team competition produced another thrilling finish between Delamere, Eaton 2 and Vale Royal 1. The outcome went right down to Delamere’s final player, whose performance secured the Staniford Cup for Delamere for the third consecutive year.

The standout individual performance of the day came from Eaton’s own Noah Alexander, who claimed the Lowest Gross prize with a magnificent round of 69. An even more remarkable achievement when you consider that Noah does not turn 16 until the end of August.

It was also particularly pleasing to see the progress of Noah, along with Laurent Beech and Lennon Smith, all of whom have benefited from Eaton’s Junior Scholarship programme. Working closely with their coach, Graham Roberts, they have all shown tremendous dedication, and the progress they have made is clear for everyone to see.

Following another highly successful Staniford Cup, I have received extremely positive feedback from the visiting teams, who were full of praise for both the excellent condition of the course and the warm hospitality that Eaton Golf Club provides. It is always rewarding to hear that Eaton continues to make the event such an enjoyable experience for all the players involved. 🏌️‍♂️⛳
