Colchester Castle parkrun A free, weekly, timed 5k event every Saturday morning in Castle Park, Colchester. Everyone is welcome to walk, jog, run or volunteer! 🌳

parkrun is not a race against other runners, but a 5k timed run and it can really be whatever you want it to be, whether that's for fun or as part of a training plan. It offers an opportunity for all the local community, male or female, young or old, to come together on a regular basis to enjoy this beautiful park and get physically active into the bargain. We want to encourage people to jog or run together irrespective of their ability – this event is truly open to all and best of all it really is FREE! Taking part is easy – just register before your first ever parkrun. The great thing is that you only ever need to do this once! Then just set your alarm for Saturday morning and get yourself there! After the run, if you don’t have to get off straight away, there will be the chance to socialise with everyone in the Putt in the Park café, to maybe swap stories about your run that day, chat to other runners over a cup of tea or coffee and just be an important part of this new running community. So whether you are a complete novice looking to get yourself started on your own "running journey" or a seasoned athlete wanting to use this as a part of your training schedule, you’re welcome to come along and join us.

It was lovely to welcome everyone at Colchester Castle parkrun once again. I hadn’t done it for a while and had missed shouting at you lot 😁

The weather was lovely, and we had lots of first timers and tourists, including some from Canada and South Africa! 👏

Today, the 10th of October, is , and we were lucky enough to have Shawn Leek, aka The mental health runner, say a few words.
Shawn is currently doing a six-hour Walk & Talk in Castle Park, and anyone is welcome to join him, and hopefully find it easier to talk openly about mental health.

We were also delighted to welcome our very own Town Crier today! 😄
His booming voice did our 3-2-1 countdown, and with your ears ringing from his bell, all 362 of you set off to enjoy yet another 🧡

I’m looking forward to next week already!! 😊

**UPDATE**

Thanks to everyone who emailed and posted in the last 12 hours. We now have the minimum core roles covered so should be ok to go ahead tomorrow as planned.

With that said - if you are free to help either tomorrow or in the forthcoming weeks we'd still love to hear from you. Trying to fill the final spots in a roster last minute is never ideal so any volunteering you can offer for future weeks is really helpful!

Hi all,

Despite emailing and posting earlier in the week we still urgently need more volunteers for this Saturday's parkrun.

We are currently short of the following:
- someone to help Nina our RD setup at 7.45am onwards
- someone to buddy up with Clare and be our second timekeeper
- someone to help Alan hand out finish tokens
- three of four more people to be our marshals out on the course.

If we can't get the required volunteers confirmed in reasonable time tomorrow we will be in the position to have to consider cancelling again like we did back in August. This is the very last thing we want to do but we can't hold the event without core roles being filled.

Huge thanks to Mathilda and the Runs Like A Girl running group for their "takeover" of Colchester Castle at the weekend. Thirty nine volunteers across all the variety of roles needed on the Duncan's Gate route and the first time volunteering for many.

We had great feedback from our participants and are really grateful for all your support. The 45 pb's shows how much you guys encouraged our participants as they weaved their way around Castle Park.

It would be great to have another welcoming and vibrant event again this weekend but the roster is looking a little sparse. If anyone can help out with:
- Setup (someone to help our RD first thing)
- Scanning (at least four people - a couple could be our faster runners helping after their run)
- Timekeeping (two people please - you'll need the app but it's really straight forward)
- Marshalling (at least four more people)
