A fantastic team performance last night saw the Dragons put 7 goals past Blackburn Buccaneers Ice Hockey Club, in a game that ended 7–3. πŸ’ͺ🏻

A massive thank you, as always, to our sponsors Crossgate Social Club, Aycliffe Filtration, and The Car Buying Coach UK for their continued support of the team, and a special thank you to HockeyHound.co.uk for sponsoring the Man of the Match award. πŸ™πŸ»

Ice Hockey was first played in Durham during WW2. Icy Smith opened Durham Ice Rink in 1940 and the sport's popularity took off when Royal Canadian Air Force pilots stationed in the region formed a services league. Players included Boston Bruins ' famous "Kraut Line"β€”forwards Milt Schmidt, Woody Dumart, and Bobby Bauer

Following the war, the Durham Wasps was formed by Canadian ex-airman Michael Davey and a group of his countrymen who settled in the city and the rest they say is history.

How brilliant is it that c80 years later Durhams last surviving team Durham Dragons still has local service men representing the city. Good luck in the Championship Shaun and Scotty
