We recently completed a ground screw installation for a residential annex build in Bedfordshire and the finished project looks brilliant.

Before installation began, our team carried out an on-site load test to verify that the required structural capacities could be achieved. Once confirmed, we returned to complete the full installation, using a combination of 1550mm, 1750mm, 2050mm and 2550mm DIN EN ISO 1461 hot-dip galvanised ground screws to accommodate the varying structural loads and changes in site gradient.

The full installation was completed in just 1.5 days, meeting all structural requirements and achieving full Building Regulations and Building Control approval ✅

The project enabled the client to move straight into the construction phase, delivering a reliable foundation system while reducing installation time, site disruption and environmental impact.

The Challenge
Before installation, the project required confirmation that the ground conditions could safely achieve the structural load requirements. With varying load demands throughout the structure, selecting the correct ground screw lengths was essential to provide a compliant and efficient foundation solution.

Our Solution
The project commenced with an initial site visit to carry out on-site load testing, allowing GBGS to verify the ground conditions and confirm that the required design loads could be achieved.

Following successful testing, our installation team returned a few weeks later to complete the full installation. A total of 173 galvanised ground screws were installed, using a combination of 1050mm and 1250mm screw lengths to suit the varying structural load requirements across the development.

GBGS was appointed to deliver the complete foundation package for a new 7m × 7m garden room in Colchester. The client required a fast, reliable and fully engineered foundation solution that would minimise ground disturbance while providing a stable base ready for construction.

As part of our turnkey service, GBGS supplied and installed both the ground screw foundation system and a bespoke timber sub-frame, allowing the client to move directly onto the next stage of the build.

Following assessment of the project requirements, GBGS installed:

✅ 36 × 1250mm DIN EN ISO 1461 galvanised ground screws
✅ 36 x 200mm L-Brackets
✅ 36 x 200mm Damp Proof Pads (DPP)
✅ Complete GBGS engineered timber sub-frame

The ground screws and timber frame were installed and levelled to create a robust, precision-engineered foundation ready for the garden room manufacturer to commence construction.

The Result

The completed installation provided a strong, accurate and durable foundation system for the new garden room, eliminating the delays associated with traditional concrete foundations. By supplying both the ground screws and the timber sub-frame, GBGS delivered a complete foundation solution, reducing the need for multiple contractors and ensuring the project remained on programme.
