A beautifully observed minute's silence for Queen Elizabeth II this evening around the pool at Places Leisure Eastleigh. It was nice to see all our swimmers and coaches standing side by side on this historic occasion.
The whistle that Mandy used to signal the start and end of the period of silence is itself historic, having been used by Mandy's Grandfather in his role as an Air Warden during World War 2.

Alex really enjoyed the day, getting to train with Adam and his coach and PT. He even got to see the Olympic golds and got a fist bump off his hero. βοΈπ€π€π₯

We are so impressed to hear about the recent lifesaving actions of Milo from our Senior Squad.
While on holiday in Teignmouth, Milo was kayaking at the beach when he noticed a dad and two children in trouble in the water due to the current. The children had drifted down the river and the dad was struggling to bring them back. Milo kayaked over and offered them help. He pulled them back to an island in the river where the dad said he would be fine.
Milo came back to shore but soon noticed the family were in trouble again, drifting in the current once more. Milo immediately kayaked out to them and started pulling them back once again.
In the meantime, Milo's Mum, Tara, asked the local sea sports centre to assist. They went out and collected the father and two children in a boat and a very tired Milo kayaked back to shore. Milo was later thanked and commended for his actions by the sea sports centre.
Well done Milo! β

Matthew's 12 Half Marathons
Our Assistant Head Coach, Matt, made the decision this year to race in 12 Half Marathons in aid of Southampton University Hospital Cancer Wards, a cause very dear to his heart.
Matt has so far completed seven half marathons, including the first ever Somerley Estate Half Marathon in this weekend's scorching heat, and he is well on his way to completing this arduous challenge.
Please following the link below to read his story and if you can please donate on his page, every little helps.

Congratulations once again to our amazing swimmers that won the Top Visiting Club trophy at the Swim Out Of Your Skin meet last weekend. π
π€ππ€

A massive βοΈTHANK YOUβοΈ to our long-serving coach, Kev Shepperd, for coaching so many swimmers at the club over the years. Nobody can quite remember how long ago Kev started. Some say 20 years, possibly more, maybe the polaroid gives a clue, but we do know that he has shaped the swimming and lives of hundreds, if not thousands, of young swimmers, including his own children.
Kev has always been particularly passionate about the development and achievements of our youngest swimmers and it was fitting that his final competition with the club was a victory by our young performance swimmers in the Rother League in May.
Kev said after that victory: "Well done Eastleigh Swim Club. Thanks for making my last gala a winning one. You should be proud of yourselves and just keep training and improving. I will keep my eyes on your results and maybe pop in at local galas sometime."
It won't be the same without Kev around poolside. He's welcome to pop in to cheer us on anytime.

Congratulations to our Performance squad swimmers, Elliott and Frazer Waghorn, who competed in the World Triathlon in Leeds last weekend. This was an awesome experience for them using the famous blue mats that the famous athletes used that very afternoon (Jonny Brownlee, Alex Yee and Georgia Taylor-Brown). π€©
Elliott and Frazer are both very keen triathletes and have been learning the 3 disciplines (swim, bike, run and 2 transitions) since they were 8 years old.
Elliott was lucky enough to be in the British Triathlon South Central academy having recorded some excellent results in events and trials. He learnt an awful lot from them during this time including a weeks camp away, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
British Triathlon have made it clear that nationally our participants need to do better at swimming. There is a real drive in this discipline.
Elliott and Frazer joined Eastleigh Swim Club a few years ago and have massively improved their technique and stamina under our coaching team and we are delighted to see their achievements as triathletes.
Rowan, their younger brother, starts at the Eastleigh Swim Club this Friday and he cannot wait. He is his brothers' most avid fan. He adores them both.
The brothers also train with Chapel Tri, based in Hamble, and the Waghorn family are happy to share details with anyone feeling inspired and wanting to give it a go.

Swindon Tigersharks Meet Report A final opportunity for our Performance swimmers to achieve regional qualification times

Saturday evening saw our junior swimmers invited over to Waterlooville to compete in Havant & Waterlooville SC's Development Meet. This competition was for junior swimmers aged 11 and under and, for some, was their first taste of competitive swimming events.
Not only did the team come back with medals and set loads of new PBs, they also roared on their teammates, showed courage to overcome pre-race nerves and, most importantly, everyone had a lot of fun. Rarely have we seen so many swimmers grinning at their teammates mid-race!
The highlights of the event were:
βοΈ Emily B - entered and set PBs in every event, winning bronze in 50m breaststroke, 50m backstroke and 100m IM
βοΈ Emilia I - swam strongly in freestyle and especially in 50m breaststroke where she finished fourth, just missing bronze by a fingernail
βοΈ Orla T - competed in her first ever competition and swam excellently to set new personal bests in freestyle and breaststroke
βοΈ Bella G - our youngest competitor, aged just 7, she competed in her first ever competition and she excelled in breaststroke, finishing in seventh position.
βοΈ Alzbeta S - entered all the events and swam a fantastic 50m breaststroke in which she won silver just 0.07 seconds away from gold.
βοΈ Izzy T - entering just her second competition, she smashed her PBs in both her events by over 6 seconds and finished an excellent 6th in 50m breaststroke.
βοΈ Abi N - also entering just her second competition, Abi swam a strong 50m freestyle and an amazing 100m IM, in which she had an excellent start off the blocks.
βοΈ Bobby B - another entrant for all the events and with all PBs, Bobby won silver in 50m breaststroke and took 4th place in 50m backstroke and 7th in her other events.
βοΈ Camille M - in just her second competition, Camille won almost all her heats and set PBs for all the events. Her starts were really impressive off the blocks and excellent technique in the races.
βοΈ Alice D - showed huge progress in her technique in all her events, setting PBs in each race. An excellent 6th place in 50m breaststroke.
βοΈ Sammy S - aged just 8, entered all the events and won an amazing three gold medals for 50m breaststroke, 50m butterfly and 100m IM.
βοΈ Ellis H - entered his first competition, Ellis set great first PBs for freestyle and breaststroke and was one of the top cheerleaders for his teammates!
βοΈ Alex S - entered all the events and seemed to be matched head-to-head against his brother, Sammy, in most heats. Won a great bronze medal in 50m breaststroke.
βοΈ Evan W - in just his second competition, Evan smashed a huge 6 seconds off his butterfly PB to finish in sixth place and set new PBs for freestyle and breaststroke.
Well done everyone! Your coaches, team managers and families are all very proud of you. π€©
We are hopeful of more events over the coming months that allow our junior swimmers the opportunity to compete against other young swimmers at local clubs. The Junior Arena League will be running again this year and our young swimmers will have their fingers crossed that Head Coach, Paul, selects them for that team.
