The course will be closed today 25/10/26

Due to the forecast for today and the over night rain and high winds the course will remain closed to day.

The course will remain closed until at least 9am tomorrow to allow us time to assess the conditions.

The autum colour’s are definitely on show now.🍁 and weve started tidying up before the winter comes in.

To keep a head of the golfers the staff are out with the lights and head torches. 🔦

Aswell as continuing to keep on top of the areas that continue to grow we’ve been starting to cut the thick rough, for the last time this year before we start raking the rough.

With the recent wet weather some of the tees have become very wet so we’ve been out verti draining them.

Greens maintenance week 2 recovery

The wind dropped and allowed us to spray a nutrition pack on the greens which has helped speed up the recovery after coring and dressing the greens.

Earlier in the week we were relying on the watering system to help wash in the sand dressing but we finally we got a good 10mm of rain fall to help aswell. 🌧️

GREENS MAINTENANCE

All greens have now been -

✅ scarified
✅ hollow cored (12mm tine)
✅ sand dressing applied and brushed in

After the 26mm of rain that fell on Tuesday night it has washed the sand dressing well into the profile of the greens and these greens will now require more dressing. We hope to apply early next week as we are waiting on a new delivery of sand.

We would also have hoped to roll the greens after the above works are complete but we’ve had a mechanical problem with the roller so we’ve not been able to carry this out.

Many hands make light work.

Thanks to all the volunteers who came out this morning to help lift the cores from the last 9 greens.

We’ve also started applying a sand dressing to fill in the holes. We hope to have this completed by tomorrow afternoon.

🔴GREENS MAINTENANCE WEEK🔴

A reminder that we will be carrying out some essential greens aeration work all next week.

This will unfortunately cause some disruption to play.

We will be carrying out the following work to the greens

Hollow-coring ☑️

Scarify☑️

Sand topdressing☑️

Solid tine☑️

Brush in all sand☑️

Repeat Dressing where required.☑️

We will close 9 holes at a time to allow play on the other 9 .

🟢Monday 21st September - Wednesday 23rd September

Holes 5-14 will be closed leaving 1-4 15 -18 open for play.

🟢Thursday 24th September - Friday 25th September

Holes 1-4 15- 18 will be closed leaving 5-14 open for play.

The darker mornings maybe starting to creep in but the sunrises are worth it. ☀️

It’s been a few weeks since we posted anything but with staff holidays over the last 3 weeks, it’s just been about keeping on top of the growth.

This week we’ve been up to

Usual course set up ✅
Spiking greens (8mm tine)✅
Verti cutting greens ✅
Tiding up around bunkers ✅
Soil and seeding tees and fairways ✅

11 greens done today Chris should have the rest finished before golfers are finished tomorrow. 👌

Over the next two days we’ve got Chris Pearson in aerating the greens with his air2g2 machine. His machine has minimal disruption to the surface and we will have the hole back in play as soon as he’s finished on each green.
We hope to stay out of everyone’s way but if he is working on a green can you please wait until he waves you on or pick up and move to the next hole.

Another busy week out on the course.

A very wet start to the week meant we finally had a weather window to get an application of granular fertilizer on to the greens.

This is to help the greens recover after a stressful month of tournament preparations where lots more double cutting and verti -cutting can put surfaces under much more stress than normal weekly maintenance routines.

This is vital in not only improving general plant health but also to help combat the chances of disease outbreaks which can be common at this time of year.(Anthracnose)

With the rain and the heat came another surge in growth so most of the week we had to focus on catching up with cutting and general presentation.

We also had a full senior open to prepare for mid week and with the Stables Cup coming up on Saturday and the Forres Mechanics golf day on Sunday all in all another full on week at Forres Golf Club .😁🏌️
