Whickham & District club member Phil Sandham was out last weekend on the Mewla Rally competing in the historic class with driver Dave Hopkins in his RS1600 BDA. The pair won the H1 class. 🥇
Phil has also been busy on several other events recently including:
The Tour of Epynt with Neil Matthews in his 2ltr Proton a brilliant car, they did 6 stages but sadly, only 2 stages without a issues.
Then Phil picked up a last minute ride on the Pendragon with Ruan Lowry in his Citroen C2 Clubman rally car. Ruan is only 18 but Phil says he drove the door handles off the little C2!
Earlier in August Phil picked up a another seat on the Grampian Rally, an enjoyable experience with a driver on his first rally in his home built MG ZF 1400cc car.
Then Phil headed off to compete in The Down Rally in Northern Ireland in a Rally 3 Fiesta. An awesome car 4 wheel drive! Richard O Lone was the driver again a brilliant ride and missed the class win by 1.5 seconds over the 70 miles so a very tight event.
Phil must be one of our most active members and although I don't want to give away his age, he's still enjoying being in the hot seat with over 50 years of competing experience behind him. 😎
