Karate, or "empty hand", is a martial art stemming from Okinawan martial arts, which were developed in secret when weapons and martial arts were banned on the Okinawan islands during Satsuma clan rule. Our club focuses on Shotokan karate, a style known for its powerful techniques and dynamic movements. We strive to offer well-rounded trainings to give members a strong foundation in basic technique

!! EGM !!

We will be hosting an EGM on Monday 20th October, just after training (somewhere on the main campus, will be confirmed nearer the time).

We are looking for two people to take on the roles of treasurer and social sec/ wellbeing officer! Anybody can do these roles, there are no prior requirements of being on a committee :))

Please consider running for a role as the club needs to fill these roles to continue running. If you want more information or have some questions you can talk to the former treasurer, Emma, and the current social sec, Max, or one of our former social secs, Efe!

Even if you're not running for a role please attend the EGM if you are able to as we need at least half of our club members to attend to vote in new committee :)

Next up is the vivacious Vice Captain Efe! Clearly a lover and not a fighter, Efe easily has the lowest attendance of all GUKC members. How she’s Vice Captain, we do not know. Moving on…

!! MEMBERSHIPS !!

Hey guys! It's that time of year to start thinking about buying your membership.

In order to buy your club membership you first need to purchase the UofG Full-Access SPORT Membership. This also gives you access to the gym facilities, pool, and lots of fitness classes across UofG Sport (including the Stevenson Building and Garscube).

You will then be able to purchase your karate club membership (you need to fill in the 'Welcome to GUSA survey' at the top of the Sports Clubs page first). We have memberships that cater to everyone, from beginners to more experienced karateka.

LINKS TO BUY BOTH MEMBERSHIPS ARE IN OUR BIO!

Please make sure that if you are not purchasing a license with us that your license from your home club is kept up to date. All members of the karate club must hold a valid license to train (this is for insurance reasons).

If you are facing financial difficulties then please have a look at the GUSA Hardship Fund. This is open all year round for people to apply and can cover both your UofG Sport membership and club membership if your application is successful (link also in bio).

YOU WILL NEED A CLUB MEMBERSHIP FROM OCT 6TH IN ORDER TO TRAIN WITH US

If you have any queries or are not sure what membership to buy then please get in touch! We'll be more than happy to help! If you are an affiliate student, alumni, or staff please get in touch with us at [email protected] to purchase your membership :))
