Ian is the founder of Tuscan Tennis Holidays. He has established himself as one of the top coaches in Scotland and holds the highest qualification attainable in the UK, the PCA Master. After living in Italy over a 10 year period (coaching & playing tennis) Ian then decided to return home to Glasgow. That same year in 1994 several members at Ian's club asked to be taken over to his ne

w home for a tennis holiday. From these humble beginnings with a few friends who loved tennis and a desire to experience an insider's view of Tuscany a successful holiday company grew! Laura has been part of TTH from the very first year when she became Ian's assistant coach for the first group in 1994. She was on holiday at the time but so enjoyed the experience that she quit her job as a bank manager to join forces with Ian and has remained ever since. Laura has also been instrumental in helping to set up the tennis programme Miss-Hits - Tennis for Girls, together with Judy Murray, which is part of Judy's drive to get more girls involved in tennis, and build a coaching workforce. Laura has also been a Scottish Internationalist at both junior and senior levels, and she is a highly experienced LTA coach. Apart from running the office of Tuscan Tennis in Glasgow, Laura is also instrumental in the success of our special hosted weeks.

Is the US Open Mixed Doubles Format a Good Idea?
After watching Serena and Carlito win their first match, I would have to say it brings a great deal of interest to the game. Encouraging the world's best singles players to play mixed doubles can only benefit the game's profile. It's rare not to see the men enjoying themselves whether they win or lose which is also nice to see. Rublev smiling lights up the court and his personality.

Serena also showed her amazing mental skills when she takes charge on big point returns - a reminder of what a great player she is!

Will Wimbledon follow the lead of the US with mixed doubles and the Oz open with the one point slam event? I doubt it as Wimbledon would be reluctant to use the grass courts before the main events. What could Roland Garros organisers do to help raise the game's profile? I would copy the mixed event but still have the normal mixed doubles slam at the same time. Wimbledon has tradition as it's main selling point and it's difficult to argue with as the players seem to love it.

Stan the Man Refused a Wildcard for US Open
In my view, this is a very strange decision for a legend of the sport and a former US Open champion. Stan's grace and humility shine through with his reaction below.
“When I first arrived in New York from a small farming village in Switzerland, everything felt too big. The city. The noise. The energy. The crowds. The lights. But year after year New York slowly became one of my favorite places in the world,” he wrote.

"This city challenged me. It pushed me. It brought something out of me that few places ever could. I experienced some of the strongest emotions of my career here: the battles, the late nights, the incredible atmosphere, the love from the crowd … memories that will stay with me forever. Winning the US Open, in the city that never sleeps, will forever be one of the greatest moments of my life."

Good news for Stan, he will now be playing in the US Open Main Draw. Patrick Kypson, previously awarded a main draw wild card, withdrew with an injury.

We do not teach shots in exactly the same way to everyone. Just look at the best players in the world to see the variety of styles.
An overhaul of your technical game is not our priority. We aim to improve what you already have in a way that suits you personally.

We were delighted to welcome Maleia and her friend, Gretchen, to Lucca for a special hosted week. We’re even more delighted that she loved the experience so much that she went on to book two more Italian hosted trips with us — returning to Lucca and discovering beautiful Sardinia too!
It’s always wonderful to see our hosted holidays turn into lasting friendships, happy memories and a love of Italy. 🇮🇹✨

How important is leg drive in the tennis serve?
Leg drive helps generate power, but club players should not simply copy professionals like Arthur Fils. The key is finding a comfortable knee bend that suits you. For example, Taylor Fritz bends his knees much less than Fils, yet both have excellent serves.

A strong serve comes from the whole body working together:

Legs: Start the upward drive.
Core: Transfers power through the body.
Shoulders and hips: Help create smooth rotation.
Racket speed: Comes from good technique and a relaxed grip.
For club players, more knee bend does not automatically mean more power. Good timing, balance and coordination are more important.

Once the technique is sound, focus on placement, spin and variety, rather than simply trying to serve harder.
