As we move into crawl week, let’s zoom into the importance of gliding, rotation and a high-elbow catch!
🏊♀️ Gliding & extension of the body.
Efficient front crawl starts with a long, streamlined body position whereby extending forwards allows us to make the most of each stroke and helps reduce resistance. We do not want to pause or “hang” in the glide, but instead to create length through the body while maintaining momentum.
🔄 Rotation.
Effective rotation in crawl comes from the hips and shoulders working together. Rotating smoothly helps us maintain a strong body position, further our reach, makes breathing easier and allows us to use the larger muscles of the body rather than relying solely on the shoulders and arms.
💪 High-elbow catch.
Once we’ve extended, we want to gain a strong catch which means to keep the elbow high while allowing the forearm to angle down, helping us to anchor the forearm into the water. Rather than simply pulling the arm down, we’re looking to catch the water and then push it backwards.
PLEASE NOTE - these tips are for swimmers working at a technique level aiming to achieve “effortless” swimming. ☺️💦

A little snippet into some of my adult classes this week..🏊🏼♀️🏊🏼♂️
⭐ Backstroke has been the primary focus across all sessions (excluding privates)☺️
My beginners have all worked really hard on achieving the correct body position for backstroke, my improvers have continued to develop the coordination of the arm and leg action, and my more advanced swimmers have been challenging themselves by engaging their abdominal (core) muscles to improve stability, rotation and body position, all while refining the timing of the stroke!
Safe to say the core work proved to be a real challenge! 🙈💪
Let’s take a look at these two lovely ladies FLYING this evening🪽💦
Butterfly is the most physically demanding of the four strokes requiring strength, power, coordination and endurance all at once😅
The improvements just keep coming week after week! 👏
Fantastic progress, Carol and Diane, we’re getting there!

Even the seals have got into the spirit of the occasion this evening, proudly sporting their England tops! 🏴 ⚽️
They were ready and waiting to cheer on the Three Lions alongside joining the children in their lessons tonight 😆🦭💦
🚨REMINDER: There are NO sessions running tonight or tomorrow evening. Please check your emails.
Recommencing next week (30th + 1st)
Many thanks!

It’s drowning prevention week and we’re talking FLOAT TO LIVE 💦
If your child is struggling in the water, would they know what to do?
And if they don't, would you?🤔
Over the past week, water safety has been a key focus with sessions covering drowning prevention, the importance of floating and the water safety code. Here are some of my amazing swimmers showing you how to float.
On average, 400 people drown accidentally each year in the UK. Let's share a message that could save a life:
✅ Head back, ears in the water
✅ Arms and legs out wide
✅ Push your stomach up
✅ Stay calm, relax and breathe normally
Float to live.

Afternoon swimmers,
⚡️Just a quick reminder that all sessions are running as normal this week.
Hope you’re all enjoying the sunshine🌞—
and looking forward to a cool down in the pool later!
Many thanks,
Lily
LOVE THIS⚡️
Diane, from the intermediate class, showing us how it’s done tonight!!
As an ex-competitive swimmer with Santa Marina in the early 60s, it just goes to show you never really lose it🤩
📍🔊How to access your swim session.
I know heading somewhere new can sometimes feel a little daunting, so let’s go together to show you exactly how to make your way onto poolside.
Of course, there will be guidance on the day too, but this quick preview should help you feel more relaxed and confident about where you’re going☺️
I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone at the pool this week and welcoming some new faces!🏊🏼♂️🏊🏼♀️
