A battling win against Chiddinfold Reserves, whose performance belied their position at the foot of Division 3.
With the score at 0-0, Chiddingfold's captain was sent for an early bath after Joss Cooper poked the ball beyond him and he wiped him out with an ugly challenge 🟥.
Shalford had the better of the play before the sending off, but made the most of the man advantage, despite going into half time all level.
The breakthrough came from some unfortunate goalkeeper. A miscontrolled backpass allowed Matt Coppinger to run in behind and tap into an empty net from an acute angle (0-1).
Matt Gandy doubled the advantage with a powerful header from a Joss Cooper corner (0-2), and could have put the game beyond doubt shortly after from the penalty spot, but the keeper atoned for his earlier error with a smart stop.
Despite their numerical disadvantage, the home side put Shalford under some sustained pressure late on, and keeper David Gregory was called into action on more than one occasion to keep the opposition out.
A deserved win which all but cements 3rd place in Division 3 this season!
Up the Shalf! 💙🤍

A tough one to take last weekend as we exit the Intermediate Challenge Cup at the first hurdle, losing 4-2 on penalties to Division 2 side Chertsey Old Salesians Reserves.
It was a game that we dominated from start to finish, the home sides's goal coming from a first half penalty, but we just did not have enough about us in front of goal to finish off the tie. The opposition dug in, defended deep and had their goalkeeper to thank for keeping them in the game, and were ultimately rewarded for their efforts. That's cup football!
We're back in Ray Cotton League Cup action tomorrow, our final crack at cup silverware this season. We face Fleet Town A in Round 3.

After defeat last weekend we responded with an emphatic win in Round 2 of the GWAFL Ray Cotton League Cup, beating Camberley Town Youth FC Royals Old Boys 8-0 on a fine day at Shalford Park.
2 goals inside the first 5 minutes from Dan Woodriffe set us on our way, and we were 6-0 up by half time. Swipe to see why our behind the goal camera didn't capture any of those first half goals... 😂
2 from Joss Cooper as well as strikes by Matt Coppinger, Michael Bennett, Jose Pereira, and man of the match Zac Minds completed the rout.
We'll now face Fleet Town A at home in Round 3 on 24 January, but next up is a visit to Chertsey Old Salesians Reserves in Round 1 of the GWAFL Intermediate Challenge Cup.
