It resulted in some great fun; great racing and fine competition umpiring!!!... some video here and stills later... CRAC featured in the winning ladies and mixed, ISC in the men's.
Next one is 16 December at Northney.

Stills from today's outings..

A cracking day after the rain... and rowers out in force. This morning we saw 3 Gigs out for the Langstone Pilot Gig Club internal Club Regatta... 50 people messing about in boat.
Then Langstone Cutters Rowing Club steamed by with 4 boats out for coffee. The Coastal Rowing Academy had 2 1to1 lessons on the water. Bekki was taking (and passing) her BR Level 2 Coaches Course. And Dolphin has 6 boats on the water.
All we need now is a proper Rowing Centre to operate from!!

Saturday was spent being an Umpire for the latest Celtic Longboat event at Chichester Yacht Club.
Boats from C*C, Itchenor, Dell Quay, Emsworth and Langstone competed in Womens, Mens and Mixed races around a challenging buoyed course; wins for C*C (ladies) and Itchenor (Men and mixed).

Sunday saw a tough Scillies training row - rough water, wind and rain made it particularly tough... but people smiled through.

Today our hardcore row was curtailed due to high waters and mot enough crew... so we went to the pub!!!

We have also been rowing! The last Regatta of coastal rowing season down at Torquay... as usual, the key competition Exmouth, Teign and Barbarians... but we came away with 2nd and 4th in the Open W4; another Silver and Bronze in the Mixed quad and ladies Masters.
Great to be out there competing and getting reward for all the training!!
Big thank you to Jeff Keast, Torquay RC Exmouth RC, Plymouth Mayflower RC, Bob Cottell, Morag, Tim, Joe, and all the friendly supportive rowers we have met; who organised and enabled the events we have enjoyed.
And biggest cheer to Jo Price, our rowing captain - whose boundless enthusiasm carries us along!!

The last reggata we attended at the SW Coastal League resulted in a combination of a lovely days racing, plus a sociable evening and an 'Alternative Awards' dinner!!
The ra ingredients, as always at Torquay, is challenging- the 6k course included 9 buoy turns and a real mix of shelter and exposed waters.
We had our best set of results at a single regatta though!!
CW4 we came 2nd and 4th... in the CW2 4th and 9th; in Cmix4 3rd and CW4 masters 2nd 🥳
Our 3 Harbours neighbour, Dolphin picked up 1st in CW1 and CW2... so a good day for the visitors!

One of the lovely things about the Coastal Rowing Academy and its Club, are the network of relationships we have built up across the 3 Harbours and beyond. Last night was an excellent example - Trafalgar Night with CRAC and the Langstone Cutters Rowing Club. We shared the usual roast beef of England in the Ship Inn at Langstone; followed by the traditional toast to his Immortal Memory.
Wrapped up with a review of the year of both Clubs and entertainment by the Selsey Shanty singers!!!

An early start for Coastal Rowing Academy sculling squad... quad, & 3 doubles out this morning... first time we have needed of a head-torch this Autumn...
Followed by Scillies Squad training row... as a new Club this is our first Scillies adventure... so we have been back to basics! It's going to be a fascinating journey!!

Here how its done!!!

3 Harbours Rowing had its first full Club event yesterday with the test Head of the Harbour. A 5 mile row from Northeny at the top of the Island, to Hayling Island Sailing Club (HISC) at the entrance to Chichester Harbour. 20 boats from 12 Clubs across the region took part and romped down the course on one of the biggest tides of the year. The results show the variety of age; craft and Club involved in & enjoying this form of rowing. Many thanks to HISC management and staff; Sandy Point Watersports for the trophies; Tudor and Langstone Cutters and Itchenor for Safety Boats; and the Coastal Rowing Academy Club for helping at the start. Wonderful day!

Today saw a wonderful day with 5 of the remaining 7 Solent Galleys Gathering together, for the first time since the 60's. The Gathering follows-up an idea raised in the 3 Harbours Rowing meeting in the spring. Celebrating this beautiful boat, in line and length as well as a lovely rowing position and one of the fastest 4-oared fixed seat wooden boats. Langstone Cutters Rowing Club, Hamble River Rowing Club, Itchenor Rowing, Yarmouth Gig Club and Southsea Shovellers and the Coastal Rowing Academy Club all mucked-in to talk about, explore, race and have a social paddle... wonderful to see!

Love this Club!

I love it when we do the 'now you're the cox' session in Get up and Go Havant rowing. Suddenly everything is reversed and you are in charge!!! Some are natural coxswains, some 'never gonna do it again!' But its always good to see the rowing boat from the other end!!!

Nice analogy...

Lovely boats!

Lets have another gathering of Teifi Skiffs. These coxed couble sculls are handy boats in fairly sheltered water..... although one has been rowed from Wales to the Isle of Man in the past! There are 18 boats in the class altogether. We have 2 entered for 5 Miles From Home Challenge so far in 2023...... 2 days left to get your entries in

.. and to make the weekend of the Head if the Harbour more interesting still; we have managed to gather together all 7 of the heritage Solent Galleys for a bit of fun and to invite anyone who wants to see and row - maybe race - these boats the chance on Saturday 30th September. Linked with the Pat Sherwin Trust, Langstone Cutters Rowing Club, Itchenor SC, Yarmouth RC, Elephant Boat Yard, Hamble River Rowing and Southsea Shovellers who own and/or row these wonderful boats. It's free to anyone interested in classic wooden rowing and race boats with a history in Solent going back to the 1780's.

Looking forward to our first experiment at running a 'Head' race for the 3 Harbours Network. Trying to encourage all the 15 rowing clubs and sailing club sections across the region to get together for an event everyone can do. There are some 50 boat from fixed to sliding and 1000+ registered rowers across the network. We have partnered with a Sandy Point Watersports and Hayling Island Sailing Club to provide a timed race, initially for mixed crews only, from Hayling Bridge to HISC at the Harbour entrance. Fingers crossed for good weather!

Coastal Rowing Academy Club at the GRR this year. Oit second year, we had one boat in our first outing last year amd enjoyed it. This year 2 x Gigs Teylu with CRAC & Lewes crew; and Laura Jane - Dell Quay, Chichester YC and CRAC medley team... entered the fray. Both finished in around 3 hours and had a great time, in lovely weather.

Just passing Port Solent on the way to collect the 2024 Almanac, when we saw this!
Turns out it's a new 1/2 person Atlantic boat from Scandinavia... ower will be Elliot Awin... rowing for Heart Charities with team name Atlantic Wrangler (?). Elliot was fitted at a young age with a pacemaker - so looking to put something back!!! Slick looking boat with an interesting bow design! Look out for him over the next months as he trains for the Talisker.

The weekend saw the latest round of SW Coastal League at Exmouth... a popular venue with a lovely, welcoming Club.
Our squad had a mixture of new rowers with our regulars... and they had a great time... winning Gold in the WC2x Masters; Silver in the CW4x and 4th in the CMix4x. Including some great coxing by our 'in-training' coxes.
Better still because 'your truly' was laid out with an acutely painful hip injury. The squad stepped up, got the boats there, raced and got back.. Great team spirit displayed all around. So pleased for the Coastal Rowing Academy Club and what they have acheived in such a short time.. and our captain Jo has a gold medal!! Richly deserved...
