Coastal Rowing Academy

... we are always careful to ensure we do not disturb the seals when hauled out - we know they are busy digesting food and catching up on sleep. Sometimes, though they come out to us and have a good look. Our Celtic Longboat row today had just such a visitor. A young Harbour seal being nosy - and I had my big camera... these are the results!

Another week of development for the Academy, Harbourside, Go Coastal, CRAC and 3 Harbours Rowing.

Hayling Island Sailing Club, learn to row organised by Kirsten. ContinueS with their Celtic programme and 5 new joiners on the 4-Week special courses.

Harbourside Centre launches a BBQ and paddlesports evening in August... all welcome. Check on the website to book.

Also in Harbourside, working 1 to 1 with rowers wanting to get into fitness.. coaching the right way to use an ergo for strength and conditioning - Julie setting her posture perfectly.

Go Coastal started the 'Wednesday' summer term, Learn-to-Row course. Mike and Kay with basic stroke technique in Harbourside, then out in a Gig and Celtic in the sunshine.

CRAC continue's Hazel's programme to get the fixed-seat rowers to try the coastal sculling boats... Mike runs small classes for 2-3 people at a time. As anticipated, they are making the transition look easy.

CRAC also had a lovely 2-boat coffee row to Flintstones for ice cream - led by Phllippa!! Lovely!!

NOT so lovely was the result of an unplanned grounding, this cox's feet shredded by hidden Oysters in the mud! Beware!! Keep your shoes on!!

A visitor from Godalming tried coastal sculling - Georgia enjoyed it so much, she had to be dragged off the water!!

Back to training - Tracey, a newly qualified BR Assistant Coach - had a go at teaching 2 new Scullers in a quad... while I did the 'single with floats' intro... happy days!

Saturday saw 4x new Level 1 Coxswains start the journey - 2x from CRAC, 1x from Dolphin and 1x from HISC.

Sunday we had the recently qualified Go Coastal Sunday Group reunited for a row. I love how groups form around a common learning experience.

Then, the first Go Coastal 'Sunday' class with 8 people in 2 boats, braving the wind.
Phew!!

Topped off with another HISC crew finding how hard it is to row in an F4 gusting F6!! (No pictures, to busy keeping us out of trouble..(

We try to make a little progress every week on Fancy That. This week we brainstormed getting Men's Sheds interested in helping progressing Fancy That's restoration. fingers crossed!!

It is a chance to meet the coaches and try the boats - before signing up for a 6-week course that could change your life! It's fun, helps you get fit, meet people and become part of a growing community of 20 rowing Clubs and 1,000 people across the 3 Harbours.
