Thank you to every who came down to Mad Volume on Saturday to celebrate our 7 years of being open.

The competition climbs will be up for the next month or so. If you weren’t able to make it down on the day, come and give the comp set a try. Total 23 problems. 10 oranges upstairs, 4 qualifiers on the downstairs wall and 1 on each board. 3 women’s finals and 3 men’s finals.

Happy climbing!

The Mad Volume, universal cheat sheet for improving your climbing strength.

Easy to use flowchart format.

Mike certified.
Amanda approved.

Sage advice for those who want it.
100% free.
Just spend some time to read it.

… jokes aside, one question we get asked a lot is: “how do I get better at climbing?”. Most of the time our advice is to just climb more, and often that’s enough, but eventually improvement stops. At this point, more is needed. Use this flowchart as a simple guide alongside your own research. Always listen to your body and adapt exercises. Always train with structure!

It only works if strength is your limiting factor. If technique is your limiting factor 😬 errr….

Good luck with the gains!!!

For one day only on the 1st of April 2026, we’re giving over to grade inflation and every climb at the wall will be graded 8a.

We’ll also be suspending our tops-on policy to help you all get the send.

Everything will be back to normal on the 2nd of April, so claim your lifetime send while you can.

Good luck everyone!

There are many different ways to get through this lime on the slab.

Most of which involve flipping the volume at one point or another.

Here are two ways to tackle the crux.

Which method have you tried?

Which method did you prefer?

“Boulder problems that don’t top out are all trash”.

Boulder problems that don’t top out get a bad rep. But surely amazing climbing takes precedence over the need to stand on the top.

Are there any fantastic boulder problems that don’t top out?

Give us your opinion on the comments below.

Meet the owners of Mad Volume, Mike and Amanda.

Why we opened the wall: We wanted to build and be part of something that had positively and enthusiasm for climbing at its centre.

We spent time during the Covid lockdowns thinking about how we could improve and develop our setting. We take inspiration from the outdoors to bring technique based climbing on marginal holds.

Mike has had a consistent and crazy amount of hype for climbing without taking a break for 20 years. He recently climbed his first 8b “lost in the silence” at the age of 42.

Amanda is a proud short female climber who over the years has advocated a strong power based approach to climbing. She has climbed a handful of 7as. Some misgraded, some soft :D

Thank you for taking the time to get to read this post and get to know us a little better.
