Our men’s footballers made the trip to Manchester today and played out a thrilling draw with St Lawrence’s in an entertaining contest.
It was a special occasion for our hosts, who gathered to remember their clubman Noel Caulfield. We were honoured to be part of such a meaningful day and to provide the opposition for the occasion.
The game itself was played at a high tempo, with both sides producing some excellent attacking football. At the break, the teams couldn’t be separated, level at 0-7 to 1-4.
St Lawrence’s started the second half strongly, but the Tones responded brilliantly and held a two-point advantage heading into the closing stages. The home side showed great determination to level matters with virtually the last kick of the game, ensuring the spoils were shared.
A draw was a fitting result on a memorable day for all involved.
Thank you to .lawrencesgaamanchester for their hospitality and for a brilliant game.
Final Score
St Lawrence’s 2-11
Wolfe Tones 1-14

Our members were delighted to be at the official opening of Lancashire’s new facilities at Broughton Park.
With Ruairi selling merchandise, Jack and Declan sorting signage and helping keep everyone fed and watered and Mark and Michael keeping a keen eye on Sam and Liam the lads were kept busy enough.
The lads also got a few moments with Uachtaran Jarlath Burns in the morning before he gave a brilliant address to the guests at the official opening.
Congratulations to Lancashire and Britain GAA on a brilliant few days at the Northern Community Games. The future is definitely bright, and we look forward to our underage competing next year. 💪
Football manager Mark was happy for a Derry man to actually get his hands on Sam this year 😶

The men’s footballers continued their good start to the season with a solid performance and win against local rivals John Mitchels at Wavertree.
The first half was a tight affair, back and forth, and the Tones lost Danny Monaghan to injury early doors following a late hit. The lads found themselves a point down as the half was drawing to a close but a mazy run from Jack Lynch saw the ball rattle off the crossbar and then fi**ed to the net by captain Matthew Martin. The Tones went into the break 2 points up.
A great start to the second half from the visitors saw them take the lead but all that did was spur the Tones on. Conall McCaffrey showed unbelievable ability in the air and with the left boot, kicking 2 fantastic points in the second half. The half back line of Doherty, Power and Cleary, were constantly breaking up attacks and flying up the pitch themselves, putting the lads on the front foot.
Brett Clydesdale finished off a great move to find the Tones second goal, his third goal in as many games, and points from Tony O’Callaghan and the tireless Martin opened the gap between the sides. Mitchels pushed forward but a brilliant point blank save from Cormac Morrison in goals kept the ball out of the net and the lads saw the game out.
Tones 2-10
Mitchels 0-10

Senior League Hurling Blitz – Round 1
Our senior hurlers opened their league campaign this weekend with a narrow defeat in the first game before bouncing back strongly to win the second. 👏
After a slow start in the opener, the lads showed great improvement in the second game with much better intensity and overall play.
Eoin Cleary and Colyn Power were excellent in midfield, driving ball into the forwards, while Matthew Doran impressed at full forward, taking some fine scores throughout.
It was also great to welcome new additions to the panel, including men’s footballer Michael McKenna, who got stuck in and added real energy to the group.
And finally, a warm Wolfe Tones welcome to our newest supporter, baby McCarthy, who was pitchside at just two weeks old — surely a club record for youngest supporter!
Plenty of positives to take as the team looks ahead to round two. 💚💛

Our men’s footballers followed up their win on Thursday with another victory at home vs St Lawrences on Sunday.
Reduced to 14 men after about 20 minutes, the lads dug in and went into the break level.
The half time introduction of Jack Lynch and Tony O’Callaghan, both of whom were carrying knocks, proved crucial as the Tones had a great start to the second period, a Thomas Reilly two point free and Brett Clydesdale goal opening up a 6 point gap. Lawrences pushed for scores and got back to within 3, but the Tones defensive effort was immense and with Reilly and O’Callaghan adding further points, the lads held on for a five point win.
Colum Lynch and Colyn Power put in fantastic displays but no man could be faulted for effort, and the good start to the season continues.
TONES 1-10
ST LAWRENCES 0-8

Our men’s footballers put in a great display away to St Brendans in the All County League on Thursday.
Playing against the wind in the first half, the Tones controlled a lot of the ball but found themselves 3 points down before a goal from Brett Clydesdale levelled matters. An commanding showing from Mark Canavan at full back and the tireless work of the middle 8 saw the team go in level at the break.
Brendans started the second half well with a two point free and another score but the Tones dragged them back level with scores from the lively Thomas Reilly, Connor Burns and Tony O’Callaghan. A further Reilly score put the lads ahead and they wouldn’t find themselves behind again in the game, largely thanks to a brilliant point blank save from keeper Michael Canavan.
The half back line and midfield secured a few important turnovers in a frantic finish, with man of the match Jack Lynch providing plenty of energy and quality to a great team defensive effort. A further Reilly free sealed a 2 point victory for the Tones.
Final Score
St Brendans 0-11
Tones 1-10
