The BKJJA uses techniques based on traditional unarmed defence methods. Some martial art styles focus on competition and what is needed to score points or win a bout.
Self defence can use methods outlawed in competition. The video shows an example. The first part shows a competition fighter getting free. The defender is trying to get a good position to be able to continue the fight. The second part is a self defence move. The defender is trying to make space to make an escape.
The BKJJA do have sports competitions, as many of us like to test our skills. Those competitions do have rules to keep participants safe.
Find out more on our social media presences. Your first session is free, then pay as you train, no contracts

Congratulations are due to one of the youngsters that trains at both of the venues that the club uses.
On Saturday 18th July, in Litherland Sports Park, Rheuben received his Student Of The Month Award for April.
Shihan Peter Smith made the presentation, while Rheuben's proud mum looked on.
Like many of the juniors, Rheuben not only works hard when he attends a session, he is very active outside of the dojo.
Keep up the good work Rheuben! Congratulations
