Been rather neglectful of this page recently, I've had a lot on, but I had to break the silence for this: A successful Battle in the 'Burgh title defence for Boom Zoom and Titchfork! It wasn't easy, the field gets stronger every year and Boomy took a heck of a beating, fighting nothing but spinners on its way to the final.

Special thanks to my amazing wife Molly who made her competitive debut driving Titchfork and did so so well with it, and to Morgan for having me along as co-pilot for The Rovengers, getting to the final with you (and against you) was a real treat!

This marks the end of the competitive road for Boomy and Titch, it's been a blast but it's time to move on to other projects. One final thank you to the Burgh crew, this event was the best yet, and I can't wait to be back with something new! Peace 🔰

Merry Christmas and a happy new year all! I've spent some of my festive downtime this year writing up the last part of the Boom Zoom Build Diary, to a point where I now feel it's complete.

Have a read if you fancy:

Hi all, I figured it was about time I finally sat down and wrote a proper build diary. For those of you that don’t know, this is Boom Zoom, my 4 wheel drive lifter beetleweight robot: But it didn’t always look like this. Below I’ll be documenting the design, build and iteration process for thi...

Finally, I've gotten around to finishing my featherweight! Introducing Haymaker, a compressor-fed, low pressure pneumatic flipper! Having no experience with building either a featherweight or a pneumatic weapon system, this was a big step up for me, and took the best part of a year to complete, working on it in chunks between other projects. In competition it did me proud however, winning Saturday's Robodojo event with a 5-0 record! I'm so chuffed with how it turned out, and it wouldn't have been possible without help from too many people to name. Thanks all of you! Can't wait to take Haymaker out for a spin again soon!

It's been a while, but new Mow Problems is finally ready! This one has been souped up considerably since the last version, bigger drive motors, bigger weapon motor, bigger weapon ESC and blade, bigger voltage, all crammed into a smaller overall body. I'm hoping these changes will lead to more weapon-dancing, kickflipping and big hits than ever before. Mow Problems V2 will be competing at Robodojo tomorrow, then Bristol Bot Builders Champs 2025 and Loughborough University's event in a few weeks! Hope to see you there 🔰

We did it!!! Massive massive thank you to Team Manuva - Fighting Robots for the fantastic work driving the minibot, to all my opponents for some incredible fights, and of course the Battle in the 'Burgh crew for consistently putting on such great events.

Those who know me know it's been a long road to this win, filled with Nearlys and What-Ifs, but looking back I wouldn't change a thing. Do it your way, with bots that make you happy!

Boom Zoom and Titchfork will fight again in 2 weeks, at Merseyside Robot Fighting for Scouse Showdown 4! Hope to see you there 🔰

New blud, innit. I had a lovely first outing with Big Crop Buster at Bristol Bot Builders New Blood event yesterday! A scaled up version of my antweight Crop Buster, this 2kg monstrosity uses a deliberately imbalanced 900g spinning bar and 2 big sets of bristles to vibrate slowly across the arena. I wasn't sure what to expect from this bot given I was too scared to test it extensively, but I was very happy with the performance! It scored some massive hits in each of its fights, and while its 1-2 record wasn't enough to qualify for the knockout bracket, it was a ton of fun to drive and really rewarding to build something a little different and have it work more or less as intended! I'll definitely be running this again in the future with a few tweaks.

Massive thank you to everyone who made it a top day out, can't wait for another!

Been a little while but yesterday's events deserved a post! I went over to Liverpool for Merseyside Robot Fighting's Premiant League 2, and Baby Boomer manged to pull off the win! I also had some fantastic fights with Crop Buster, can't wait to see the footage back. The vibes were impeccable, and it was really refreshing being able to compete at a Scouse event instead of being too preoccupied helping run it! So great to see the scene in the Northeast continue to grow, long may it continue 🔰

New year, same bot! Boom Zoom MK6 is ready to go, but this time it has a friend. The main focus for this version was to cut enough weight to add a minibot. Introducing Titchfork, running Repeat Compacts on 3S with a decent amount of magnetic downforce, the hope is that a second robot will help give Boom Zoom the edge against certain opponents, and create more chaos while doing it!

Upgrades to the main bot include a more powerful servo for the lifter, more rigid lifter arm, and more powerful drive motors.

These guys are ready for Robodojo on the 18th, hope to see you there with your ants and beetles!

Botfest 7 was my last event of the year, and boy did it deliver! First place for Baby Boomer was very welcome, a little bit of luck in the final was enough to get it over the line this time. Grandmaster Smash was it's usual bouncy self with mixed results, but my personal star of the show was Crop Buster. It was moving surprisingly quickly and racking up some serious damage as you can see in the pics, and managed to make it to the top 8 before bouncing itself out.

The new MRF/Botfest arena was a joy to fight in, Jay has done an amazing job on it and I can't wait to get back in it again! The vibes were immaculate as always, massive thanks to Lucy and everyone else who made it a lovely end to my year 🔰see you in 2025!
