🗒️ Corstorphine Dynamo 1–0 Edinburgh South

So close. So, so close.😅

We haven’t managed to get the better of Corstorphine Dynamo in the league yet, and we really felt this was going to be our night to shine.

We started the game strongly and sharply. Our touches weren’t always at their best, but we kept possession well, created multiple chances, looked dangerous, and continued to push forward. We were asking questions and putting Dynamo under pressure.

Then, just before half-time, a small mistake gave us another mountain to climb. 1–0.🙈

A few small tweaks at half-time and we were back at it. The start of the second half felt a little flat, but we quickly grew into the game. We created chance after chance, won corners, and even earned an indirect free-kick, but unfortunately we couldn’t find that final touch to turn our pressure into a goal.

We kept pushing right until the final second, but once again, it just wasn’t our night.🥹

Well done, team.💪

Keep believing in yourselves. Keep working hard. This is a competitive league, and every team is fighting for those points. The margins are small, but the effort, belief and desire have to remain high.

We go again next time.

🗒️South Tried to Make History

Edinburgh South 1–4 Arniston

With one of our coaches enjoying a well-deserved break across the ocean, we thought the stars might finally align. ⭐️ We’d done this before, and surely history was ready to repeat itself and reward us with that elusive first win of the season.

Apparently not.😬

We decided to try something new, with a few players moving into different positions. It worked… okay. Just not quite in the way we had envisioned it!

From the first whistle, the game was fast-paced and physical, with both teams creating chances and looking dangerous. South had some good opportunities, but it was Arniston who found the way through- twice. Despite a strong effort from the team, we went into half-time 0–2 down.

A reset was needed.💪

We kept the back line as it was- because, to be fair, it was working- and made a few changes through the middle and further forward. We came out for the second half hungry, determined and with a clear drive to get ourselves back into the game.🙌

And we did everything we could.

Chance after chance came our way, but the Arniston defence stood firm. Solid as a mountain range, they seemed determined to block absolutely everything we threw at them.

Then, just as we were building momentum, another good Arniston move opened up a gap and they made it count. 0–3.🙈

But heads didn't drop.

We kept pushing, kept creating chances and kept believing. Eventually, the breakthrough came- and what a breakthrough it was.

Our captain, Cat, stepped up and produced what could quite easily be a contender for 🌟goal of the season🌟. A beautiful strike into the top-right corner, leaving the goalkeeper with absolutely no chance.

One back.

We needed two more.🙏

South continued to push. We hit the post a couple of times, created more opportunities and, for a spell, you could sense a little panic creeping into the Arniston ranks. They were under pressure, and we were knocking on the door.

Unfortunately, there simply wasn't enough time.

Then came one final mistake in the dying moments, Arniston took advantage, and the whistle blew shortly afterwards.

South 1–4 Arniston

The scoreline doesn't quite tell the full story of a game where the team kept fighting right until the end. There were plenty of positives to take, plenty of chances created, and that determination to keep going- even at 0–3 down- was exactly what we want to see.👌

🫶Well done, team. Super proud of you and genuinely amazed at how much you’ve developed. The progress you’re making is fantastic to see. And a big well done as well to those who are slowly growing into the squad- keep working, keep learning and keep believing in yourselves.🫶

Well done to Arniston, who took their chances when they mattered.👏

As for us… the search for that lucky charm continues.🍀

🗒️And the Win Goes to… the Wind! 🌬️

**Edinburgh South 1 – 2 Swifts**

We normally don’t like to say *unlucky*… but today really did feel like one of those days.

From the first whistle, Edinburgh South were playing some really good football and dominating large parts of the game. We took an early lead and, with the way we were playing, it felt like we could really kick on from there.🙏

But the goals just weren’t coming.

We created chance after chance, kept pushing and kept trying, but it seemed the ball simply didn’t want to find the back of the net. Still, the girls didn’t let that get to them. They kept their heads up, kept playing their football and went into half-time **1–0 up**.🙌

We continued to work hard, create opportunities and play some fantastic football. Unfortunately, football can be cruel, and after an unfortunate rebound, Swifts score 🙈Suddenly, all the good work felt like it had been wiped away.

But South didn’t stop.💪

We kept battling, kept looking for that next goal and gave everything we had. Then came the moment that summed up the afternoon perfectly. A Swifts shot from almost the halfway line looked harmless enough… until the wind decided to get involved. 🌬️

**2–1.**

There wasn’t much time left to find our way back into the game, and despite one final push, it just wasn’t meant to be today.🫣

Gutted? Absolutely.

Because the scoreline really doesn’t tell the story of how well South played. 🫶 We played good football, created chances, worked hard and never stopped pushing. Sometimes you can do so much right and still walk away without the result you deserve.

⭐ Special Mentions

A huge shout-out to **Cat**, who, despite feeling unwell all week, stepped in between the sticks and did an absolutely amazing job. What a performance and what a commitment to the team. 👏

And another big shout-out to our newbies **Lizzie, Rosa, Ruth and Arina**, who are slowly finding their feet and growing into the team with every game. Keep going girls- you’re doing brilliantly! 💪

So, South, heads up. There is plenty to be proud of today.👏

🗒️ Face Smacks & Fighting Spirit

Edinburgh South 2–4 Murieston

It was so good to be back on the pitch for our season opener against league winners Murieston- and even better to start the league with a bright evening, sunshine and some proper summer football! ☀️

Although, judging by the number of times the ball found faces tonight, perhaps we should have brought a face guards… 😅

We started brilliantly. There was so much pace, great control of the ball and plenty of chances created. Eventually, Salomé found the breakthrough! 🥳 Murieston tried to argue that the ball hadn’t crossed the line, but it absolutely had- over the line and on the scoreboard! 1–0 South 💪

We kept the pressure on and continued to play with pace and confidence. Unfortunately, after a knock and a little defensive crumble, Murieston found the equaliser, making it 1–1 going into half time.😳

But there was still so much in the tank. Everything was there, so we came out hungry for more in the second half.🙌

Once again, we showed good pace, control and plenty of attacking intent. Unfortunately, a handball in the box- because apparently we hadn’t had enough face smacks for one evening- resulted in a penalty. 🫣 Murieston converted to make it 2–1.

But our heads didn’t drop. We kept pushing.

Murieston found another and suddenly it was 3- 1, but South weren’t done yet. We’ve got this!💪

After a brilliant run forward from defence, Maria found the back of the net to give us hope of still bagging some points. 3–2!🤩

We pushed, we fought and we tried everything we could, but there just wasn’t enough time. Murieston managed to find another in the final seconds of the game to make it 4–2.🥲

Not the result we wanted, but plenty to be proud of. The team looked really good, there was pace, energy, fight and some great football on show. There are a couple of lessons for us to take away, but this is only the start of the season.🫶

And if tonight is anything to go by, you’re going to see South roaring this season.

Is it a promise?

It surely is. 🐦‍🔥⚪️🔴

What a season it’s been for Recreation Ladies in our very first competitive campaign. From the very first game to the final whistle of the season, this team has grown massively- not just as footballers, but as a group of friends, teammates, and a proper squad 🫶

At the start of the season, we were learning, adapting, and finding our feet in competitive football. By the end, we were taking points off top teams, beating sides who had dominated us earlier in the year, and showing every single week how far we’d come.🙌

The biggest success this season hasn’t just been results - it’s been the bond built between everyone involved. The team spirit, support for one another, and determination to keep improving have defined this group from start to finish ❤️❤️❤️

5️⃣ Season Highlights:

⭐️Taking points off Murieston at home- becoming the first team to do so that season. A special moment after a less-than-perfect pre-match speech, followed by the team going out and producing an incredible performance.
⭐️The first win against Polbeth- including the unforgettable moment of thinking the game had finished 4–4 before realising we’d actually won!
⭐️FaceTiming Agne all the way in New York to celebrate the victory together ❤️⚽️🍎
⭐️ Winning against Arniston after suffering a heavy defeat to them earlier in the season, showing just how much progress the team had made.
⭐️Becoming officially recognised as the only team in the rec league with a mascot 🐥a massive achievement in its own right 😜

💫Most importantly, though, the highlight for many has simply been seeing how much this team has grown together over the course of the season 🫶

🥇Player Recognition

🌟Tracy

Our captain and a rock at the back all season long. Tracy has constantly put the team first and has grown into such an important force within this squad- a true leader on and off the pitch. Player, coach and beating heart of the team 💓

🌟Megan

This season’s most versatile player without a doubt. Megan stepped into every possible position whenever needed, but at left back she was especially reliable, solid, and consistent all season.🤩

🌟Courtney

Another strong defender who has come on massively this season. Yes, there were a few handballs along the way, but Courtney kept pushing, improving, and has become a truly dedicated member of the team. Look at her tattoo- 4️⃣4️⃣4️⃣- she got it right 😜

🌟Cat

Cat puts her heart and soul into this team. Her passion for the game lifts everyone around her, she’s been brilliant on the wing, and of course we’d probably be lost without our treasurer too. She almost mastered set pieces and eyes on Cat next season 🤩

🌟Nago

Without a doubt one of the most skilled players in the squad. Plenty of teams would love to have her, but we’re very happy she chose WrecK team- she’s been a huge driving force behind our success this season. She also probably gets knocked over the most! 😬 but she gets up and keeps pushing forward 👊

🌟 Salome

It’s been amazing to see your confidence grow so much this year, and we’re expecting even more strikes and goals from you next season. Another congratulations on your wedding day Mrs ❤️

🌟Laura

From being the first to be subbed off to now driving the team for a full game, Laura’s energy and killer first touch make life miserable for opposition. Laura appears to be back undercover again- joking, she might actually be a spy 😜

🌟Callie

One of the newer members of the squad who maybe didn’t get as many minutes this season, but her hard work has been so clear to see. In the last game especially, she showed just how far she’s come and that consistency really pays off.🫶

🌟Mairi

Another new addition to the team, but already someone we’re excited about. We’re loving the skills she’s brought so far and are really looking forward to seeing even more from her next season 🙌

🌟Sarah

Sarah keeps putting in the work week after week and is always one of the loudest and most supportive voices on the sidelines. A future coaching career might definitely be on the cards 😜

🌟Anajú

Finding someone willing to go in goals is never easy, so we’re incredibly grateful for Anajú. She’s done an amazing job this season, and with a bit more goalkeeper training next year, she’s going to absolutely smash it.👌

🌟Hazel

Hazel showed in the last game exactly what competitive football suits her. Strong, fierce, and determined- we’re really excited to see even more from her next season.🤩

🌟Agne

Agne only had about 30 minutes in the game, but considering the circumstances, she did really well in goals. While she’s definitely chosen the role that suits her skills best, we’re so glad she gave it a shot out on the pitch too.🙏

🌟Ciara

Our top goal scorer this season. 🙌From the days when coach wanted to keep her in defence to becoming an absolutely top-class striker has been incredible to watch. She’s always seen as a danger by the opposition- and probably one of the most targeted players on the pitch because of it.🫣

🌟Lidia

Even though Lidia couldn’t make every game this season, whenever she was there, her excitement and passion for football were impossible to miss. She always gave 100% on the pitch and brought great energy to the team ❤️

🌟Joanna

We’re so glad Joanna got a chance out on the pitch this season. As one of the rec team OGs, it’s amazing to still have her with us and continuing to be part of the squad.🫶

🌟Clara

Clara has some amazing skills and so much potential. We’d love to see even more of her next season- and honestly, Ciara probably needs a strike partner up front, so we may have a job for you! 😜

🌟Chechu

Chechu has definitely been one of the most positive members of the team this season… and maybe also the most confused at times! 😜But her attitude and energy are always appreciated, and we hope to see even more from her next season.🫶

🌟Kirsty

Kirsty has great skills and always stepped up whenever asked to help drive the team forward. We’re looking forward to seeing even more of those moments and even more magic from her next season.✨

🌟Gaelle

She was with us for most of the season and made a massive contribution to the team. Whether it was driving, scoring, or simply doing whatever the team needed, she was always there giving her all. Her commitment, energy, and team-first attitude made a huge difference throughout the season.👊

🌟Alessia

Was another outstanding goalkeeper for us, playing many important games and always stepping up when needed. Even during her holidays, she still came along to support the team, which says everything about her dedication and character. 🫶

🌟 Louise

She relocated during the season, which meant she wasn’t able to commit for most of it. But at the start of the season, when she was with us, she was absolutely fierce! We hope to see her rejoining us next season 🙏

❗️This season was about far more than wins and losses. It was about building something from the ground up- creating a team culture, building confidence, and proving that Recreation Ladies belong in competitive football.❗️

The future is incredibly exciting for this squad, and if this first season is anything to go by, there’s a lot more still to come. ⚽❤️

👊🎉👊What a way to end the season — Edinburgh South 2️⃣-2️⃣ Haddington! ⚽🔥

First of all, what an amazing experience this season has been. Our very first competitive season, and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone involved- organisers, players, supporters, and all the people behind the scenes who helped make it happen. We truly appreciate every single one of you. 🙏

Now, about the game…

End of season football means injuries, tired legs, and very low numbers- but that didn’t stop us. One thing this team has shown all season is that we stand strong and never give up.
We started the game safe, controlled, and composed. Both sides created chances, but we were the first to make it count after an absolute beauty from Salomé from the edge of the box! 🚀⚽

We knew we had to stay tight, but after a couple of dangerous counterattacks, Haddington found an equaliser from a corner scramble. 1-1 at half-time. 😬

We knew a draw was enough for us- but Haddington wanted more. They came out strong in the second half, and so did we. We adjusted things in the middle of the pitch and trusted the plan, but suddenly we found ourselves watching the ball hit the back of our net. 2-1 down… and now we were chasing the game.

10 minutes to go… could we pull this off?
Of course we could. 💪

After a calm and clinical finish from Ciara, we were level again at 2-2! The final minutes felt endless, but then came the whistle- full time, a draw! 🙌 🎉🎉🎉

A great game and huge thanks to Haddington for hosting us. Looking forward to hopefully arranging some friendlies over the summer! 🤝☀️🫶
