Tower Hamlets Council plans to redevelop one of our home pitches, John Orwell Sports Centre, for housing. Part of the plans include turning the pitch into 5G, which will make it unplayable for hockey. Building houses around the pitch will also limit usage and access to the pitch.

JO is home to 10 of our senior teams, including 2 Development Teams. It's where our Wapping Kidds Hockey Club section provides free and low cost hockey for children ranging from U8 to U18 years old. It's where our free Back2Hockey sessions offers an introduction for people who have never played hockey, and where hundreds of people come together for mixed hockey in the summer months.

JO is our home, and the absolute heart of WHC. These plans are set to rip apart a community that plays, trains, laughs, grows, and builds together.

It's absolutely essential that our members, wider London hockey family, local residents and any who oppose commercialisation of community assets to attend the second consultation tomorrow.

But the fight doesn't stop there. We need keep reminding Tower Hamlets council what JO means to us and why we stand against these plans.

🗓 Attend the consultation on Sat 26th Sep
