Aikido Wimbledon

This January, our Club celebrated its 20th Birthday. I was so keen to “do something special” for this occasion, but somehow life just carried on…Now it’s April, and that was probably just the best way to appreciate this achievement, just to keep going. Every single class is special, the journey, the company, the interactions. They are all unique and I can only hope that every Aikidoka’s life is affected in a positive way. What started as a humble but determined small Aikido dojo in Wimbledon, is now a well known Aikido Dojo to-go in London. I can only thank you all, who have supported me on this journey. And a very special Arigato Gozaimasu to for his priceless support 🙏 here for the next 20, kampai! 🍶

¿El Aikido es un arte marcial suave? Son muchas las personas que argumentan que el Aikido es un arte marcial suave, muy parecido al Tai Chi. Esto en parte por la forma en la que se practica hoy en día, ya que muchos profesores y practicantes tienen la idea de que la práctica debe ser relajada, suave, y estética, y esto lo argumentan diciendo que el fundador cambió su técnica al final de su vida. Sin embargo la realidad es que el Aikido original distaba mucho de ser así. Es gracias a la magia del internet y los videos que fueron grabados cuando el fundador aún vivía que podemos ver una forma de practicar Aikido bastante dura y marcial, aún ante la mirada del fundador, que ya en su última etapa deja que los alumnos pongan toda su energía y seriedad en la práctica. Es verdad que el Aikido es un arte marcial espiritual, y que no tiene por objetivo el combate, pero no deja de ser un budo, un arte marcial que fue respetado y reconocido en su momento por todos los maestros más importantes de Japón. Regresemos a la práctica real, regresemos a las enseñanzas y a la marcialidad que transmitía el fundador.
