Royal Mid-Surrey's Ladies' Section has more than 310 members today, which makes it one of the largest in the UK.

Since 2012 the club has had a Ladies' Captain and a Men's Captain of equal standing, in place of a single club captain.

Two of Richmond's best-known landmarks share an architect, and you can see both from our fairways.

Sir William Chambers designed the Great Pagoda at Kew in 1761, as a gift for Princess Augusta. Eight years later he designed the King's Observatory for George III, finished in time for the King to watch the transit of Venus in 1769.

The Pagoda rises over the tree line beyond the course. The Observatory sits in Old Deer Park itself, in the middle of it.

Golden sunrises across the J.H. Taylor Course.

The mornings are cooler and the leaves are starting to turn, but the light is still shining at Royal Mid-Surrey.

We've been re-certified.

Royal Mid-Surrey has once again been awarded status from GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf, the most respected sustainability standard in golf, after an independent audit of everything from the course to the clubhouse kitchen.

The verifier called the club "at the forefront of sustainability in golf."

It's the work of a lot of people: staff, members and local volunteers. Thank you to all of them.

October, apparently.. ☀️

The calendar has moved on, but nobody told the weather. It is a perfect Thursday afternoon in Old Deer Park, with the sun sitting a little lower and the greens looking as good as they have all year.

Royal Mid-Surrey has two 18 hole courses, and this one has a story worth knowing.

In the early 1900s the club laid out The Ladies' Course, one of the first 18-hole ladies' courses in England. It's now the Pam Barton Course, named after a member who joined in 1929 and, in 1936, won both the British Ladies Amateur and the US Women's Amateur.

A change of pace.

After the long par 5 second, the 3rd on the J.H. Taylor Course is a more compact test. A par 4 of 368 yards from the back tees, bending gently left, with bunkers set around the green.

It rewards the golfer who thinks about where to leave the ball rather than how far to hit it.

First light on the J.H. Taylor Course, and the day's work has already begun.

While the course is still quiet, our greenkeepers are out preparing the tees, greens and fairways for another day of golf. It's easy to miss from the clubhouse, but it's a big part of why the course looks the way it does when you arrive.
