What a weekend for David at the England Athletics Age Group Championships! πŸ¦…πŸ’«

Saturday – U18 100m
David opened his championships with a superb 10.89w in the heats before producing an even faster 10.64w in the semi-final to book his place in the national final. Rising to the occasion, he delivered another outstanding performance in the final to finish 6th overall in the country – a fantastic achievement.

Sunday – U18 200m
Back on the Bedford track, David continued his incredible form. He comfortably progressed through the heats in 22.11w, then ran 21.93w in the semi-final to secure another place in the final. In a highly competitive race, David clocked a superb 21.73w to finish 5th overall in the country.

David arrived at the championships with a 100m personal best of 11.01, and 200m personal best of 22.21, Over the weekend David produced phenomenal performances, taking significant time off his PB’s and establishing himself among the very best U18 sprinters in England.

These results are a testament to David’s hard work, commitment, and determination throughout the season. Finishing 6th in the U18 100m and 5th in the U18 200m at the England Athletics Age Group Championships is an incredible achievement, and everyone at the club is immensely proud of you.

Well done, David! The future is looking incredibly bright! πŸ’›πŸŽ‰

Just over a week ago, we competed in the third round of SALs where yet again we had an impressive team representing in just about every event. πŸ’«

In post 1 of 4, we feature (imo) the best SALs team photo so far. Leila, Cat and Bryce running the show from the back. Christina in triple jump, one of the athletes trying an event for the first time in a competition! Alex competing in 100 and 200m at his debut SALs comp. And who knew that Will was a secret pole vaulter? Winning the event in Ally’s absence.

Huge congratulations to Mieke who finished in third place at the English schools championship in the U19 400m hurdles. Despite the hot temperatures, she achieved a PB and a national standard time.πŸ’›πŸ–€

Although she has been part of the club since a junior, up until a couple of years ago, she was a competitive swimmer before moving to athletics to concentrate on 400m and more recently focusing on 400m hurdles. She is still a beginner in this event so hopefully will continue to achieve even more in the future! πŸ₯‰πŸ’«

The Balcombe loop via the amazing Ouse Valley railway viaduct. πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ ⛰️
Our long run crew, led by our qualified run leaders, conquered 21k of trails in Balcombe. In true Southwark Athletics Club style we *hurdled* stinging nettles, *sprinted* past herds of cows and even *threw* back a cool drink or 2 afterwards. πŸ’«
There will hopefully be another led trail run in September, but before that, we’ll have our regular long runs every Sunday morning.
