Coming back.
We hear these words often in yoga.
Come back to the breath.
Come back to the body.
Come back to yourself.
But what does it actually mean to come back?
Life asks us to move constantly outwards. We respond, organise, worry, remember, anticipate, perform different roles and adapt to what is happening around us. The mind becomes busy with everything that has happened and everything that still needs to happen.
And somewhere amongst all that movement, it can become difficult to feel where we are.
Yoga offers us an opportunity to return.
Not because we have actually gone anywhere, and not because there is some perfect version of ourselves waiting to be found.
Perhaps coming back simply means allowing some of the mental activity to become quieter, so that we can notice what was there underneath it all along.
Patañjali describes yoga as the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind. And then comes a beautiful idea:
Then, the Seer abides in its own nature.
So we practise.
We come back to a breath.
A sensation.
A movement.
The feeling of the body on the mat.
The mind wanders, and we come back again.
Maybe that is one of the reasons we practise yoga — not always to improve ourselves, achieve something or become something different.
Sometimes we practise simply to remember.
To come back to the body.
To come back to the breath.
To come back to ourselves.
And then, inevitably, life calls us outwards again.
So we return to the practice.
And we come back. ♡

🌈 Kids Yoga is coming to SOL Centre! 🌈
We’re so excited to welcome Tabassum Skelton to SOL Centre this September with a beautiful 6-week Kids Yoga course designed to help children move, breathe, play and grow.
🧘 Thursdays | 4:00–4:50pm
📅 10th September – 15th October
📍 SOL Centre
216 Fairbridge Road, London N19 3HT
These fun, themed classes combine yoga, mindfulness, storytelling, games, breathing exercises and relaxation, creating a safe and nurturing space where children can build confidence while having fun.
In today’s busy world, giving children time to slow down, move mindfully and connect with themselves can make a real difference. Yoga helps children develop healthy movement, improve concentration, learn emotional regulation and build resilience - all in a non-competitive and supportive environment.
With many years of experience teaching children, Tabassum Skelton creates classes that are playful, engaging and welcoming, helping every child feel seen, included and encouraged.
Places are limited, so we’d love to welcome your little ones to join us for this special six-week journey.
We can’t wait to see them on the mat! 💛
✨ Benefits of Kids Yoga include:
🌿 Building confidence and self-esteem
🌿 Improving balance, coordination and body awareness
🌿 Developing focus and concentration
🌿 Learning calming breathing techniques
🌿 Supporting emotional resilience and self-regulation
🌿 Encouraging creativity, imagination and joyful movement

Before movement, there can be breath.
Pranayama and breath awareness can be beautiful ways to begin a yoga practice.
Taking even a few minutes to consciously notice or work with the breath can help us transition from the activity of the day into the experience of practice, settling some of the noise, gathering our attention and becoming more present in the body.
And what happens when movement follows?
Whether the physical practice is strong and dynamic or slow and gentle, arriving with greater awareness may change the way we experience it.
Instead of simply moving from one posture to another, we might notice more. Feel more. Become more absorbed in what we are doing.
Perhaps this is one of the pathways towards flow, when breath, attention and movement begin to meet, and the distinction between doing the practice and experiencing the practice starts to soften.
Research into slow and controlled breathing is increasingly exploring its relationship with the nervous system, stress regulation, attention and emotional wellbeing. Yoga, of course, has been exploring the relationship between breath and mind for centuries.
Not every practice needs to begin in the same way. But sometimes, before asking the body to move, it can be interesting to begin with something very simple:
Breathe. Notice. Arrive. Then move.

A little personal invitation from me 💛
This Saturday, I would absolutely love to see you at Sol Centre for our Summer Social.
When I created Sol, one of the things that mattered most to me was creating more than a place to practise — I wanted it to be a place where people could meet, connect and feel part of a community.
And this Saturday is about exactly that: being together, while also coming together for a good cause and raising funds for Save the Children. A little afternoon of yoga, community and good company, with the opportunity to do something positive at the same time.
We’ll begin at 3pm with a charity yoga class led by the wonderful Indra Ove, with donations in aid of Save the Children. Everyone is welcome, whatever your level.
And if yoga isn’t what you feel like doing on Saturday, please just come from 4pm for drinks and a little celebration. You really don’t need to take the class to join us! (But please let us know that you’re coming 😊).
Afterwards, for anyone who wants to carry on, we’ll walk together to a local pub. 🥰
I know many of you are away over the summer, but if you’re around, please come and say hello. It would mean so much to me and Lorna (Lorna Stancer) our studio manager, to have our teachers, team, members, friends, neighbours — old faces and new — together at Sol.
Saturday 15th August

Come for the yoga, come for a drink, come to support a good cause, or simply come for the company. I’d love to see you. ❤️ (Link in bio)
