We were delighted to welcome our local MP, Helen Hayes, to the Afewee Training Centre this weekend to visit our Step Ahead Saturday School programme.
Step Ahead supports local children by providing additional academic support in Maths, English and literacy, alongside enrichment activities that build confidence, wellbeing and a positive relationship with learning.
Designed by the community for the community, the programme aims to help narrow the attainment gap and ensure that young people have the support, encouragement and opportunities they need to succeed.
During the visit, Helen spent time meeting the pupils, observing the sessions and seeing first-hand the impact of the programme in action.
We were also delighted to welcome special guest Dapo Adeola, award-winning children’s illustrator and author, who spoke with the pupils about creativity, storytelling and believing in their potential.
Thank you to Helen for taking the time to visit and support the work being done to uplift young people and families in our community.
And thank you to our dedicated team, volunteers and supporters who continue to make programmes like this possible.
Together we continue working to create opportunities for young people to step ahead and reach their full potential.

Also Kirsty also wanted me to ask the Afewee accounts to post this on socials.
We are pleased to announce we are a Delivery Club for the Moves Different Project in partnership with England Boxing and Welsh Boxing 🏴 🏴
This means that our club will be hosting fully funded Moves Different sessions for young people who have been identified as at risk of offending, to show them how boxing can have a positive impact on their lives.
We are happy to be supporting our community in this way and look forward to getting stuck in. If you know of any young person that might benefit from this project, reach out to our Regional Project Lead - [email protected]
