That’s a wrap on SOAS Badminton 2025/26 🏸
What a year. From your committee, it’s been an absolute pleasure.
We’ve had our lows. We said goodbye to Sanjuthra mid-year as she headed back home, and to our committee member Azir, who stepped away for personal reasons.
But the highs? They’ve been something else.
🏆 Our Men’s team finished 1st in the league and not by a little. We took the top spot with a lead of over 10 points on the next best team.
🥉 Our Mixed team finished 3rd, narrowly losing against UCL RUMS and Imperial 2’s.
✨ A massive shoutout to our postgrad superstar Rishi, who’s been racking up gold medals in singles across the Badminton England Tier 4 circuit. And to our president Ricky, who’s been placing podium for ISO, Crossfire and other local tournaments in both mixed and men’s doubles.
None of this would’ve been possible without our committee (Ricky 邓文杰 .03 Yang 李子扬 kisuk.jng 啟正 azir Serraon) the socials, BUCS, All England and all the events. You guys made this society what it is today.
To everyone who came to a session, played a match, or cheered from the sidelines, thank you for an unforgettable year. We hope to see you on court again in September 💛
Officially passing the baton to our new president Konrad and the incoming committee ( 啟正 )

SOAS draw 4–4 vs LSBU 🤝

That’s a wrap on our 2025–26 competitive season, finishing with a hard-fought 4–4 tie against LSBU. We’re incredibly proud to end the season undefeated and top of the league 💪

Huge thank you to LSBU for hosting us. This was one of our tightest matchups yet. We took 3 singles and 1 doubles, while LSBU pushed back strong with 1 singles and 3 doubles wins. Going into the final matches they led 4–3, and we just managed to clutch one last win to secure the draw.

This also marks our 100th post on the SOAS Badminton page 🎉
Thank you to everyone who’s been part of the journey this year, it’s amazing how much we’ve grown and improved over the past 6 months.

We hope you’ll stick with us for another year of great badminton and even bigger achievements ahead 🏸🔥

SOAS 4–5 UCL RUMS

And with that, we conclude our 2026 LUSL Mixed Badminton season with a bronze finish in the league 🥉 — trailing just behind Imperial and UCL RUMS 2.

It’s been a great season filled with some amazing matches. Although we gave it everything, we weren’t quite able to break through UCL’s defence, losing narrowly 4–5 in the final game.

A huge well done to everyone who played and supported throughout the season — we’re proud of the fight the team showed all year 💪🏸

Keep scrolling for some close-up shots from the match… and a sneaky little collab 👀

BUCS NATIONALS 2026 💛🖤

We made it! What an unforgettable weekend — from the late-night pillow fights to the early morning starts, every moment was worth it. The team spirit, the laughs, the support… the group dynamic couldn’t have been better.

Huge love to our honorary “parents” Rishi & Eleanor and Jefferson & Maxine for keeping the chaos (somewhat) under control and putting up with all the antics 😂

On court highlights:
🏸 Rishi battled his way to the Round of 32 in Open Singles after two hard-fought matches, eventually falling to a strong Sheffield Hallam side.
🏸 Ricky & Rishi fought through to the second round of Open Doubles, beating Keele in 3 sets before a tough match against Cambridge (13–21, 19–21).
🏸 Ricky & Eleanor reached the second round of Mixed Doubles, beating York in two clean sets before losing to Sheffield Hallam.
🏸 Maxine & Eleanor narrowly lost a nail-biter 19–21 to Aston.
🏸 Yang & Kisuk gave it their all against Oxford Brookes but the opposition was too strong.

Every match showed heart, grit and pride. All in all, a hugely successful BUCS for SOAS — couldn’t be more proud of every single one of you. 💛
