WELCOME TO OUR INAUGURAL ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE - WENJIE FAN, 10 AUGUST–6 SEPTEMBER 2026

We are delighted to welcome Wenjie Fan WenjieFan as the inaugural artist-in-residence at 2020 Archery.

Born in Nanjing and based in London, Wenjie is a multidisciplinary artist working across sculpture, textiles, drawing, printmaking, installation and moving image. Her practice explores the shifting relationships between body, material and environment, often moving between human and animal forms, interior and exterior, protection and exposure.

Wenjie is also a competitive Olympic recurve archer. The sustained attention, repetition and bodily awareness cultivated through archery have become integral to her artistic methodology, informing her understanding of the body as both a sensing and making instrument.

During the residency, Wenjie will expand the research developed through her recent exhibition, Taming Wolf, bringing artistic experimentation into direct dialogue with the physical and perceptual experience of archery. Working through painting, printmaking and textiles, she will explore attention, tension, movement and release.

The residency will culminate in a small exhibition at 2020Archery, bringing together works created and developed during Wenjie’s time in the space. Further details will be announced soon.

Over the coming weeks, we will share glimpses of Wenjie’s evolving work and residency process.

We’re so proud of our regular 2020 Archery club members — Rebecca Sweetman, Kristina Schapiro and Heath Buck — who will be representing GB at the World Nomad Games 2026 (31st Aug to 6th Sept). Archery demands focus and discipline even from a fixed position. The skill and dedication required to shoot from horseback is something else, and we'll definitely be cheering on the whole team!

We're excited to announce that our World Nomad Games team has grown from three riders to four! 🇬🇧

Please join us in welcoming Christine Crew to the British team. Although currently based in the Netherlands, nationality eligibility means she'll be representing the UK at the 2026 World Nomad Games, and we're delighted to have her on board.
